That's the timeframe we use too but we are closer to King of Prussia. 76 to 476 to 95.....

We've learned to cut across to Lancaster Avenue at King of Prussia (used to be Old Eagle School road, it gets complicated now), but then we can hop onto 476 at Villanova instead of going all the way out to Conshohocken. It may take just as long but it FEELS like it's shorter :rotfl:

I work on Old Eagle School rd. When I have to get to the stadiums around rush hour, I take King of Prussia Rd to 476 @ Nova.

Even if you make it at 4:00, it shouldn't be too bad. You may have some slow downs and some stop and go, but it won't be the worst of it.

Look at it this way, if your choices are:

Leave earlier, but you can't
Leave three hours later so you avoid rush hour
Go some route that completely avoid Atlanta but adds two hours

In those scenarios, going right through the heart of Atlanta rush hour is probably still your best bet. Even if you lost an hour (just making up that number) you would still be ahead of any other option. Though that doesn't take into account for the hair that you'll be pulling out. :thumbsup2

As far as rush hour in Atlanta goes...do you think if I went through around 7pm I'd be okay??

Hi everyone! My family and I will be going to Disney in March and driving from south central Pennsylvania. Mapquest gives me an estimated time of 15 hours, 45 minutes. Any tips on driving from that area or just for such a long drive in general? We've been to Disney before, but this will be the first time we are driving. Our children are 7, 6, and 4. We do have car dvd players for them!

We are hoping to drive straight through. We were thinking of leaving at about 7pm (it's easy for my husband to sleep during the day so that's what he would do before we started driving.) Anyway, leave at 7pm and hopefully the kids will fall asleep after a bit and sleep overnight. I'm hoping for less traffic during that time too. In the morning after getting breakfast, I would take over driving and hopefully get to DW in early afternoon. Sound doable?

Thank you!!

I have done it a few times. travel at night is the best if you can stay awake. just remember, kids sleep all night and mom and dad haven't. we leave at different times. the latest kick is leave at 1am and get there at 4:30pm. we do the leave wdw at 3am and arrive home around 7pm. im in Nazareth (east of Allentown). being south pa your better off taking i95. there are a lot of people on here that will be able to help you with that. have a nice trip! :thumbsup2

Ya..I am about 20 minutes from Delaware......we were thinking 3-3:30 leave time?

My concern is coming back on the day before thanksgiving.. I just want avoid that va, dc. Md traffic mess..

the Wednesday before thanksgiving. :scared1:

I would have to be honest, I have never tried it. I am on the road a lot for work and a generally don't stay out to long on the "eves". If I would have to guess, your going to hit some traffic either way you go. I would say leave wdw as early as you can. I (and this is just me) would go to bed around 7pm the day before. have the car all loaded and hit he road around 1am. and hold my breath. under normal conditions you should get home around 4-5pm with out messing around.

maybe someone can help you more with the dc area traffic. coming from florida I use i4/i95/i26/i77/i81/i78. I also use i4/i95/17/i66/i81/i78. but that is taking you way to north and the traffic on i81 most likely wouldn't be much better.

You can try 301 and get onto 896. Not sure exactly where in PA you are coming from but it sounds like Chester County. If you can get through DC in the afternoon, you should be ok. It won't be perfect but probably won't be terrible. I would break up the drive into 2 days.

OUCH. Can you stay over on the way back and get to wherever you need to be for Thanksgiving by getting through early in the morning? I have family all over the Northeast, and have made wonderful time by getting going at 5 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning...just a thought. Emporia, VA is about 12 hours (with stops) from WDW. Possible stopover point?

Good luck deciding!:goodvibes

It is definitely doable! If you leave at 7pm you should be there by Noon unless you have traffic problems. I live in Camp Hill across from Harrisburg, PA. In the old days we would leave at 4pm and get in around 8 or so in the morning. However I am not the slowest driver, going about 5 to 10 mph over the speed limit and not stopping for long meals.

What route do you plan to take? 81/77/26/95 or 83/Beltways/95? It makes less of a difference if you are driving at night, so the direct route down 95 may be best. I still like 81 because it is a nice drive, but it is about 30 miles longer from Camp Hill. Over night driving is wonderful for traffic. After 11:00 at night through about 5am is great with only the "serious" drivers on the road.

Do remember you are going to need rest when you arrive and plan accordingly. A swim, a soak in the hot tub and and early night are in order. :)

Have fun!

Thanks for the tips! We are in York and planning on the 83/I-95 route. Once we arrive that day, we are just going to decide at the time what we want to do. If we feel up to it, we'll hit a park. If we are just too beat, we'll hang out at the resort and get to bed early, so we are fresh for the next day!

mjmyers..I am in South Jersey...

Ha..I am so crazy that we are driving back Wednesday and I am cooking Thanksgiving the next day ...so I can't really stay over. I guess I will just cross my fingers and hope coming back isn't a nightmare!!

Sorry. Another poster said they were from PA. You'll just have to hope you don't get too much traffic.

I may be making the drive on black Friday but not to go to the parks I may have an interview in ocala
