Wow! You made great time!

A little less than 2 months until we make our first drive to WDW from Southern NJ. I keep asking my husband to start getting into planning at least the drive (he will do the majority of driving), but he's not much of a planner. He also is holding my suitcases hostage and not letting me pack until 30 days prior to departure:confused3 I guess he doesn't share my same excitement, lol!

So this is the plan I have come up with:
  • Leave SNJ at around 6-6:30pm on Friday Nov. 2nd after an early dinner.
  • DH will have slept during the day Friday (9am-3pm). Kids and I will go to work/school that day.
  • We will drive until we pass DC. Then stop to stretch, use the restroom, get a late night snack, and change the little one into his PJ's hopefully signifying time to sleep.
  • DH drives through the night stopping when he needs to.
  • Hopefully, the rest of us sleep for a bit. I know DD will have no problem sleeping. I'm pretty sure my son will sleep fine in his car seat. I'm not sure I will be able to sleep though.
  • We will stop for a very early morning sit down breakfast.
  • I will take over the driving.
  • Kids will have movies, games, and snacks.
  • Hopefully DH sleeps a little.
  • Arrive at WL early afternoon.
  • Rest
  • Meet the mouse at Mickey's Backyard BBQ:cool1:
  • Early to bed.

ETA: On the return we will stay overnight in a hotel because DH will not have had the opportunity to sleep during the day prior to driving. Not sure what time we will leave WDW though so not sure exactly where we will stop.

This how we travel, but we leave a little bit later since we're up North (10 mins from Manhattan) and DD4 is out like a light around 8:30pm and will sleep the entire night, but we're potty trained finally so I'll have to wake her for bathroom breaks so I have to see how that plays out.

DH does all of the driving because he says he does it better...by all means! I try to sleep and say I will sleep the entire night, but I never do. I drop off after passing my Yemassee, SC exit sign (my hometown!), we hit the last Waffle House out of SC and then I'm out like a light and that's like around 10 am in the morning.

DH wakes me up when we hit Jacksonville because I just love Jacksonville and then we do a mile countdown to WDW.

OMG I cannot believe Halloween is almost here!!! :goodvibes

Well, we didn't take the AutoTrain back after all. DH wanted to drive home. We went the 22/78/81/77/26/95 route on the way down which wasn't too bad. Came back leaving on Tuesay morning at 11 am from Lake Buena Vista taking I95 and got home Wednesday at 1:30 pm. The only major problems we had were gas in Georgia being $3.999 on the way back (only put $30 in and filled up on our next stop when the price was cheaper.) and making the mistake of taking the inner loop of 495 at DC w(where traffic was at a practical standstill from 8-9 am from rushour) instead of the outer loop toward Maryland. That's what I get for listening to my GSP. I think it was trying to take me to the Turnpike even though I have it programmed to not do toll roads. When I changed it to take me to Harrisburg instead of home it took me on some 2 lane highways up to Gettysburg and finally got us to 83 and I knew the way home from there.

We went over halfway home on Tuesday by midnight and slept in a reststop in Virginia for 6 1/2 hours. I know, that's unheard of on here, but it gets harder the older you get. We got up at 6:30 and drove till about 7 or 7:30 & when the traffic started to pick up we stopped for breakfast.

Stopped at the Hollywood Casino in Grantville, PA near Hershey to use the facilities and get free refreshments:lmao:. Didn't even gamble. Got a copy of my card and I had $4.08 on it so I used that to help pay for a watch DH had seen in their gift shop when we were there on a bus trip.

We had been on the Disney Fantasy August 25 cruise & stayed on for 3 extra nights because of the Labor Day weekend. We didn't want to drive back in that traffic. We went to Universal on Sunday to see the Harry Potter stuff. Had Butterbeer both ways and rode one ride. Didn't do the inversion roller coasters. The ride we did do was bad enough. You had to put everything in lockers before you got on. There were signs in front of many rides that said if you had an artificial limb you would have to take it off if you wanted to ride:scared1:. Holy flying limbs! That was enough for me to know I didn't want to ride it. Another bit of proof that age plays a part in what we do. Monday we did Universal Studios. After not having been there for 15 years I realized why. IT ISN'T DISNEY!!!!!!!!!! Again, I was not impressed.

Have you looked at the April 2013 thread? Some folks have posted some great airfares they've gotten.

Since it is school vacation week in most of New England that is why they have the prices so high. Any other week it would be fine but DH is a teacher :teacher: so we are stuck going that week.

Another option to fly is to drive 3-4 hrs to Long Island or NYC and fly out of there but that just sounds too stressful for me plus those cheaper flights were on a Saturday night:confused:

Thanks. It was a great trip. The cruise was very relaxing. The most stressful part of the vacation was getting almost to GA & DH reliving he didn't have his Am Ex card. I had asked him in Harrisburg, PA & he said yes. Next time I ask to see it. Getting a replacement was a real pain because we were going on the ship the next day. We didn't get it till we got to our after cruise hotel & even then we had to go thru a lot of hassle till they found it. Thank goodness I had my VISA for the cruise.

I want to join too! Driving from Ct late November into December. Debating on leaving Friday mid day to get down there by Sunday mid morning or leaving Saturday early morning.

We will have my Dh4 with us but she's pretty good in the car.

The longest drive we've ever made was 15 hours but that was without our daughter.

Hate flying and cost is too much anyway. Plus we will be at seaworld for 2 days and don't want to rent a car.

We'll be extending a similar reply to you very soon. But first, you have to depart for WDW! Sometime on Sunday, yes?

All the best. :thumbsup2

6am bc!!! we are just going to drive and see how far we get. (hopefully not all the way to wdw or i will be a day early. :lmao:) we are going to hit a hampton inn sunday night. (ya, me with no resis? figure that one out) and finish it up monday morning. im trying to over come my o.c.d. :lmao:

my vote would be very early sat. morning. (3-4am) if you leave friday afternoon you are just going to sit in traffic anyway would be my guess.

We think this plan makes most sense too. Only problem is that we are going to Seaworld for their christmas shows that Sunday and I've heard the show stop around 4pm. I want time to see them and am hoping we can arrive there by 10am.
