That would be great. I'd get a Wawa hoagie and coffee before I'd eat at Cracker Barrel. Actually, I'd starve rather than eat at Cracker Barrel.

Speaking of restaurants, this trip we are trying the Highway Diner in Rocky Mount NC. Plan to hit it for breakfast, hopefully around 10AM! Looks like the type of place we like to try on the road. And Diner breakfast always tasty!!

Ah, dinners (actually via the breakfast menu) at Cracker Barrel during the long ride home from WDW. Always consistently good, and the prices are so low. We usually stop at the one closest to our overnight VA stop.

Coincidentally, we made additional WDW breakfast and dinner reservations yesterday for our next trip...which will include another Cracker Barrel stop on the way home.

March. It will be drive #26, which means that if we do at least three drives a year for the next dozen years (and you do two per year) we will still be 15 drives behind you. Of course, if we do four drives a year we'll finally catch up to you around 2024!

Hmm. I don't think that will ever happen. Your record is practically untouchable.

Hello, I am new to this thread. We are going back and forth between driving and flying for our summer trip. Anyone on this thread drive from the Dallas, TX area? Can you give me any tips? We are thinking about breaking the driving into 1 1/2 days each way since it is an 18 hour drive.. At least according to mapquest..

We've done the NJ to Texas drive twice.
Don't spend time on any stops on your I-10 East drive to FL, except for gas and restrooms. Plan your trip to avoid major urban areas at rush hour, and just "go!"

We are driving to Hilton Head from NJ (Monroe, NJ off exit 8A). Looks like we are going to take our first serious road trip - my husband, myself and our 7 year old twins. All flight options are extremely costly and have layovers. Would rather save the $ for a fall trip to Disney (love those Mickey head pumpkins and MSSHP ). Asking for help from experienced road trippers. We are staying near Disney's Hilton Head resort. We are planning to leave Fri 7/27. We have reservations Sat 7/28-Sat 8/4. Need to be back to work Mon 8/6. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! THANK YOU!!

WE love Hilton Head! We drive from Mass. to HHI a couple times a year. Will be doing the drive next month for Feb. break.

My suggestion is to seriously consider driving through the night if you are taking 95 in the summer. Huge difference! So much less traffic...though you could hit some overnight construction. But...seriously...leaving on a Friday in the summer is the worst possible time.

Other suggestion would be to leave no later than 3am on Sat. and drive straight through. Any later and you hit beach vacation traffic from MD right through to SC. Sat. is the prime turnover day for vacation rentals and they run from the Jersey Shore to VA Beach, Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head.

Have a wonderful time and be sure to check out Skull Creek Boathouse. One of our favorites on HHI.

I agree with the 3 a.m. start. If you leave around 3 a.m., you'd get to HHI (no stops) in the mid-afternoon. What's also key is that your children will likely sleep for the first few hours of the trip! Since it is their first, it might be a good idea.

If you really want to leave on Friday night, you have to time traffic to avoid the tie ups on I-95 in DE (their shore traffic, which happens a long ways away from their beaches!) So, maybe you leave your place at 7:30 p.m., and with perfect traffic, you could grab a hotel south of D.C. around 11ish, but then you really aren't gaining anything, and you are spending for a night's lodging. Also, you'd likely arrive the same time, or later, on HHI compared to leaving the next morning at 3 a.m.

On the way back, it might be worth it to break the trip up overnight. Just so you don't lose that vacation relaxation with a hard push home.

I can rearrange my work schedule to leave Thursday night for Hilton Head. Perhaps we can be on the road by 8 or 9 pm. Kids will sleep most of the way down. I can get a hotel room for Friday pm on Hilton Head. We can then crash at the pool or beach! Do you think we can avoid most traffic this way? Would stop somewhere for breakfast. There are some decent prices right now for really nice 4 star resorts on HHI. Bet they won't be around for long!

We check out of hotel Sat am. Any advice as to when to leave for the trip back to NJ? Will traffic Sat during the day be horrible? Would you advise leaving at dinner time? Any recommendations on layover hotel along the way?

Hi! My family and I are doing our first big road trip ever in March! From CT to WDW!! We are either leaving on Friday or early Saturday - hoping to get there some time on Sunday! My kids are 12, 8 and 3. They have all the video games, dvd's, ipods etc. so they should be ok (I'm hoping)! I have heard travelling on I 95 can be difficult with traffic?? I thought maybe leaving early on a weekend and coming back on a weekend would be better?? Can anyone give any tips?? I think a stop over night is a good idea for us. Just not sure where yet. I was thinking about half way or so. But, I have heard people say try to get as far as possible on the first day so the second day is easier. We have heard from others that NC around Rocky Mount area is a good stop. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated!Thanks!

I am new here. We are driving down from Central NJ to WDW in April. We have made this trip a few times, most recently August 2010. It is my DH and our kiddos DS10, DD7, DD5, DD4, DS3. Just wanted to introduce myself! We are leaving at night, driving straight down. On the way home we are doing a 3 night stop at Myrtle Beach. All good Thanks for the thread. It's great!
