For you driving vets, what is the best way to handle the tolls in FL? I am serisouly thinking about getting a Sunpass. We aren't going to be doing a ton of driving around. We will be coming to WDW from the Kennedy Space Center area and then are thinking of heading to City Walk one night to catch the Blue Man Group.

sorry, i dont use them. i come down 95 to 4 to wdw and dont move.:lmao:

Sorry - we drive down 95 from PA so can't help.

thanks so much. I appreciate all the help I can get. I also noticed that I didn't see anything about anyone coming from Texas.

:surfweb:We are leaving NH Thursday afternoon and will drive straight through... We shuld arrive at our destination alost exactly 24 hours later! My husband is a truck driver and has done many coast-to-coast trips in his career.... We travel commando style - 3 kids, my husband and myself and only stop for fuel and emergency pit stops. We get plenty of food and snacks and lots of movies and stuff to keep the kids busy! popcorn::

Can you please keep us updated as to your progress and traffic? Are you taking Rt 95 all the way down or an alternate route?

I'm debating leaving this Friday, about 11:00 am and stopping twice or leaving waay early Saturday and stopping once.

We'll be driving from Texas next year. The DFW area to be exact. It'll be our first time driving.
Here is a link to another thread about driving from Texas. They had some suggestions. I think at least one person came from the Houston area.

We are driving down from Chicago leaving around 5 am (hubby wants to leave at 4 am)

Debating between 65 through Indiana/ Louisville, a familiar route for us, or head down through Illinois on 57/24.

I fear if we leave at 5 am, we hit Indy around 830 and traffic would suck around the beltway...

Also is it realistic to think we can make it to Valdosta by 7 or 8pm or should we plan on stopping around Tifton?

Thanks!

We're leaving from Manitowoc (which is about 3 hours north of Chicago) around 9pm and planning to drive through to Valdosta, GA. We're taking the Indy route and supposed to be at Valdosta by 4pm (that's without any stops or the time change) so I'm guessing more like 7 or 8pm. We'll be driving on a Saturday though so I'm not sure what that means for traffic.

Leaving Friday at 5 pm and heading to Cherry Hill. Hitting Geno's 1st thing in the am on Satin Philly. Then heading to DC for the day. From DC headed to Selma NC for the night. Sunday driving to Savannah for lunch and then onto Boardwalk.

Friday when we leqave I plan to drive to PA. Saturday hit Lancaster...well Bird in Hand actually then onto NH.

Hopefully we have semi smooth driving.

Have you made the drive before? We have done it quite a few times and we have always left on Sat. around 3:00 am...pretty much take 95 south the entire way and stop every 2.5 hours for a 15-20 min. break. We are in SC by supper time, and last year we ate and hopped back in the car and hit GA by 9:00 by the time we stopped. We leave by 9:00 am on Sunday and we are in Disney by noonish.

By leaving at 3:00am, you miss all the mess that runs through CT, NY, and NJ when staying on 95.

Next time we drive, we are getting an ez-pass over at the Newport Bridge so we can wizz through the tolls.

Have fun.

Cheryl

We will be heading for Concord by 9AM Thursday. DH has an appointment from 9-12, then we will be rocking & rolling south! Yes, we take 95 the whole way until we get to Daytona and branch off toward the inlaws. How can I keep updates going while were enroute? Is their a mobile website for Disboards??

We have done this trip many, many times. Generally we leave NH by 5pm, and this gets us through NYC around midnight with minimal traffic. We hit the Carolinas in the early monring... its 12hrs to Richmond from NH. Then the last few and biggest states feel like forever and take the longest. Now that we are leaving by noon... I am not sure where we will fall. DH thinks we'll fit traffic in NJ at rush hour and should cost us about 2 hrs... but once we get by there we should be all set! I will see about keeping updates as we go!!

Safe Travels to everyone! :thumbsup2

Ooh, have you gone to the Bird in Hand Bake Shop or do you just go into the main street area? We love the Bake Shop - they have great stuff in different sizes, a great selection of canned items, even some nice basic gifts and outdoor stuff.

I don't understand your schedule though. Are you going to Philly, then Lancaster, then DC? FYI - we love Jim's Steaks at 4th and South St. Geno's is fine, though.

Hi everyone I am new to this site as we always fly but with the cost going up and up we decided we r going to drive. I am coming from Houston Texas..does anyone know the best route for us to take? and what time to leave on Thur june 2. we would like to get there as quick as posible to take advantage of star wars weekends. I dont think we will stop we will probably just drive straight through. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Traci- we are not from TX but from Chicago area. We have family in the Houston area and do visit them - as well as family in FL and Disney. We tried combining the trips last year to avoid one extra 1000+ miles on the car. We went Chicago to FL to TX and back home to Chicago last year. Our route from Disney was the Florida Turnpike to I75 to I10 to I12(in LA I10 swings south to New Orleans - does a sort of U between Baton Rouge and the Sidell near the LA/MS border - I12 is a more direct route) then back on I10 to Houston.
This year we will be doing the reverse - Chicago to Houston to FL and back home to Chicago. So to go to Disney from Houston this year, we plan on taking I10 to I12 to I10 to I75 to the FL Turnpike.
Hope this helps.

Aww Geno's know it well and if you want some good Italian subs to take along the way try Sarcone's Deli at 736 S 9th St they are great. A large sub there can feed 4 people :dance3:

Add more time to your drive. It takes about 1:45 to drive through GA on I-95 (assuming the construction of last week is still on the north side of the interstate). Once you reach FL it will take approximately two hours to reach I-4, and then an additional hour on the road to reach the WDW exits.

All the best. :thumbsup2

We drive from the Canadian border right thru Syracuse on I-81 right to Front Royal, VA then take I66 east to exit 28 at Warrenton, VA then U17 to Fredericksburg, VA and then from there we take I95 to Daytona beach, FL.

There is almost always traffic west of Downtown Orlando until u get past the International Drive exits.

Cherry Hill!!!- love it! We just moved from there- sadly

Ok so we are driving for the first time from Northern NJ. We have done many trips to Hilton Head from Cherry Hill, NJ- which we now are 2 hours north.

Anyway we use to leave on a Sat at 3-4 am. We never hit traffic near DC but some in south-South Carolina. Anyway we need some tips! We are not ready to drive through the night, I do not know how people do that! We need our sleep!
But we know we are exhausted on the trip to HH leaving 3-4am? So dh thinks maybe we should leave around 6 am? I am worried about traffic? We thought we could get to Georgia and stay the night there. We have 2 kids- 3 and 6.

Any tips, advice suggestions? Routes? We usually take 95 all the way.

Thx!!!
