dvczerfs -- No Lime Green Mickey Head in a window? You aren't ready for the road until you put a LGMH in there somewhere so other DISsers can spot you on the road. :thumbsup2

:lmao: the windows are tinted, you cant even see my dvc throw across the back seat!! :lmao: just in the back alone i have a dvc member sticker, old key west sticker. mm magnet and an mm lic. plate frame.:lmao: disney is going to charge me if i put anything else on the van.:lmao:

the van is a 2006. this will be its 8th trip to wdw and it only has 20k miles on it.:lmao: we are most likely going to trade it in next year. with dd out of high school, it dont look like she will be going as much with us and we wont need all the room. dw is looking at the lexus rx350. ill have to find a disney freak to buy it, i dont think they will take it as a trade with everything on it.:lmao:
she drives a 2001 chevy tracker thats all decked out in disney also, ill have to take pics of it.:lmao: i told her if we get the rx350, the only thing going on it is the dvc lic. plate in the front, and the dvc mem. sticker on the back window. ill let you know how i make out.:lmao:

W drove down Friday night / Saturday morning from St Louis. I ended up driving all 16 hours straight through by myself. Both times I stopped for gas my wife and kids were sound asleep, and I was not that tired so I just powered on through it.

We stopped at cracker barrel around 7:00 am in Ocala.

Traffic was non existent. Surprising for a Holliday weekend. No construction delays either. Car has been parked since we arrived.

Now by the pool eating benets posting on my iphone

Congratulations on your safe drive to WDW. Now it's time for fun.

All the best. :thumbsup2

I'm leaving on Monday, June 27th around 9am from south west of Boston. I'm actually only going to Hilton Head but there is so much good info on here I thought I'd post my itinerary & see what people thought. I'll be travelling solo with my 3 kids, ages 4, 7 & 8. We don't have to be in Hilton Head till Sat morning when DH is flying in so we plan to take our time & see some sighhts along the way. Here's what I have so far:

Monday- 84-684-78-22 to Lancaster PA. Only real goal here is to make it through NYC before the evening rush hour. Spend the night in Lancaster or somewhere in NJ if I don't feel like driving that far (DD & I are going to Taylor Swift the night before so we might be really tired!).

Tuesday- sped the day at Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster. Spend the night in Lancaster.

Wed- leave Lancaster by 9am. Take 81 to 29. Stop at a hotel with a pool somewhere around Lynchburg, VA.

Thurs- leave by 8am. Take 29 to 70 to Concord, NC. Spend the afternoon & night at the Great Wolf Lodge.

Fri- leave by noon. Take 77 to 26 to 95 to Hilton Head. Stay somewhere close to the island Fri night.

Sat- get on Hilton Head & pick up DH at airport (yeah!!!)

I was originally going to take 95 the whole way but it seems like there are so many horror stories about trying to get through DC and Baltimore that the inland route seems to make more sense. I'm trying to drive mid-day (9-3ish) to avoid rush hour as much as possible. I have terrible night vision so driving at night isn't really a great option for me.

I'd love any tips from others that drive solo with the kids.

:lmao: theres a blue mm hat on the top of the antenna!!! i managed to cut it off on the pics. one of the disdads is down for star wars weekend and is sending me a 2011 grad mm topper!!! ill put that one on before we leave.:lmao:

love love the pics.. too cute!! looks like lots of room in there. they are blankets on the floor is that for sleeping? only 3 more days for us and we r out of here. cant say that I am not getting nervous. I am not a road trip girl so we shall see how I do and hopefully the hubby and I arrive there and back and are still marriedpopcorn::

We leave this next Saturday from El Dorado Kansas (near Wichita). We plan on leaving our house by 5 AM and driving to Birmingham to stay for the night. This is a little over the half way mark for us.

Does anyone have any recommendations where to stay in Birmingham?

What are the current gas prices in the South? We are currently paying $3.61

Is there any road construction on 75South?

Thanks in advance for you help!!!!!

We leave in 11 days and 23 hours!! It's finally getting closer.:cool1:

We are taking 77s from Cleveland straight to Florida. We are leaving at 10pm on a friday night so we won't be seeing much until daylight. Can anyone offer insight on places to take breaks. Our 2 DD's will sleep the first half hopefully. We won't be staying overnight anywhere we just want to stop and maybe take some stretch breaks along the way.

Has anyone taken this route before? What type of driving conditions will we face? We will be driving on the weekend so I hope this helps us avoid traffic delays but I am not sure. Also where are the best places to stop and let the kids run around or even stop and do some shopping.

We aren't on a time schedule because we had originally planned not to be in Florida until Sunday evening but work schedules changed and now we have a whole extra day!:thumbsup2

It'll probably be bumper to bumper at 70 mph across I-26 to 95. The last two years we've driven to Hilton Head and each time we've hit traffic on I-26. I-95 isn't terrible from there on south. The next real hiccup is I-4 starting about 20 miles north of Orlando.

I can't speak for anything above Beckley on I-77, but from Beckley to Columbia, SC (Where you pick up I-26) is pretty much smooth sailing.

As for stops - Rock Hill, SC is a good place to stretch your legs. If you're looking to kill several hours (or even stay over) Savannah, GA is beautiful and has some great food down on River Walk. Low Country Shirmp and Grits. . . .mmmmmm. Plus I-4 breaks off of I-95 at Daytona, so if you want to go see the ocean and stretch your legs, you can do it there.

Hope it helps. Have a safe trip.

Cheers,
Indy

looks good!!! im not sure why you are taking 22 and were. if your taking 22 to go to dutch, :thumbsup2 but 78 will take you directly to 81. 22 is the old "highway" and 78 is more of a "bypass". good old dutch won.!!! i was just there last year, our dd had a dance comp at the host across the street. i plaid golf at the host.:thumbsup2 you correct, the first leg will most likely be the busiest. have a safe trip.:thumbsup2

normally, the back seat, only one side of the seat would be up and the other side would be folded down. for more room and that you can lay down in the back with out touching anything. i have a piece of rubber down first on the floor. than i made out of a 4ft x4ft 3/4 plywood, and 3 inch foam, like on your sofa, and covered in with material from an old sleeping bag. than put down another sleeping bag over it, that one is just laying there. it works out great!!! for the way home mostly. if someone wants to sleep, they can lay in the back on the floor, we each have our own bed pillows and there are 3 blankets.:thumbsup2 going to florida is the only time my wife dont tell me how to drive.:lmao: you will be fine, just go with the punches and relax. thats what dw tells me, reeeeelaaaaax.:lmao: it makes the trip alot easier and we have a blast, even with out our dd. youll be fine.:thumbsup2

Just got back from our trip! We did Detroit to FL. It was a long drive, but not too bad. Coming from the MI autobahns we aren't used to everyone going the speed limit, but we trucked along at our 65 mph. Sailed down and back without any traffic backups. Was super happy that we drove and had a car down there to use instead of Disney bus transportation.

Watch out going through Georgia on I-75! Everyone always says be careful in Ohio, don't speed. Ohio has nothing on Georgia! There were speed traps everywhere and they are sneaky, too! Once we got out of MI, we set our cruise control, kept to the speed limits and didn't have a problems. We saw many others that weren't so lucky.

I had bought the Along I-75 book and it came in very handy. Plus, lots of fun little facts to read along the way. I'd recommend it to anyone making the trek especially if you plan on stopping over night. I was able to located hotels by exit and then look up rates on my phone.

If anyone would like a AAA diamond parking pass, let me know. I bought one off eBay and would like to pass it on to a DISer to use. It gave us better parking at Epcot and the Magic Kingdom (if you are staying off property this is not for free parking just better parking - you still have to pay unless you are a resort guest)

As soon as I get my first Chick-fil-A I'm a happy camper.

Where in Chicago area are you? You do know that Chick-fil-A has a couple of stores in the burbs now.
The way all the restaurants are moving up here (first it was Jason's Deli, then Sonic, now Chick-fil-A), pretty soon the only reason to go to FL will be Disney and seeing our grandkids.

There's authentic barbecue on the way, too! :rotfl:

AND THIS YEAR, WE HAVE A NEW PASSENGER!!!!:lmao:
d872ebf0.jpg

Awesome! Is that a cooler I see in there? You can't possibly have a cooler packed now!

I LOVE the new passenger! We still have all that clean-up to do to the Minnie-Van and more! But we did start organizing all the matching T-shirts yesterday and made some good lists. :rotfl: The good thing is we didn't unpack all the Disney-only stuff from last trip, so we're halfway there without even trying.

BC - we'll be sporting the Father's Day Mickey antenna topper for this drive, at least in the beginning. DD bought it for her Daddy last year and it has yet to be displayed! Usually we have the classic Minnie topper with the bow - matches the red van!::MinnieMo

SO MUCH going on with school, Girl Scouts and stuff - the trip is sneaking up on me! My binder's ready to go, but we're not packed, we got a LOT to do before we leave. PANIC!!!!!!!!! :scared::crazy2::worried:

Hey all, guess I will have to post pictures of our interesting van. Our van has the standard Mickey soccer ball antenna, bumper plate cover, DVC member sticker and last but certainly not least our family in Mickey heads...LOL

Great idea! I'll work on photos by next weekend.

Hey Everyone!

I am trying it for the first time. We are road trippin it to WDW in July. We are a family of 4 driving from boston. I am the over night drive (I work the 7pm-7 am shift at a hospital so I am used to being up for 24 hrs at a time). DH is the day driver. We plan on leaving at 7pm thursday night and hopefully arriving in orlando by friday 10pm. We plan on driving straight through if my 3 yr old DS can handle it. I need some helpful hints from you guys! I wanna try to avoid tolls ($65 round trip:scared1: CRAZY!!) What way do you guys recommend? I wanna get there as quickly as possible! Im thinking my DS will be fine from 7pm to about 10am then we will need to take an hour break so he can stretch his legs! Im thinking thatll get me to NC. Hopefully Im not totally crazy lol! :confused3

Finally got the love bugs off the front of the car from our May Disney trip. Hubby opened the hood to charge the battery (left the light on in the car for a day) and noticed that there were love bugs smashed up inside the engine area. Did my best to brush them off.
Just made our reservations for our visit in two weeks so I guess it will be time to reclean the car - especially the inside.

i put an extra coat of wax on the front of the van, it makes it easier to get them off. but they do stock to eveything dont they.:scared:

:lmao: the coolers in there but there nothing in it. we have eveything in the fridge in the garage and the ice packs are in the freezer in the garage. if you look behind the cooler, youll see a box, thats the food box. there are a few things in it but the rest goes in the morning we leave. i also take a blanket and toss it over the box and the cooler, just to keep it cooler. the black ontop of the cooler is velcro. theres velcro on the bottom of the dvd player so you just stick the dvd player to the cooler and it wont move around. some trips the dvd player dont come out but we take it and the dvds just in case.:thumbsup2
