FOP 40 days out - trying to modify or wasting my time?

I wasn't able to get FP+ for our Animal Kingdom day during our February trip at 60 days out - party of 3. Instead I got EE, NRJ, and KS. Should I keep trying for FOP by refreshing/modifying or am I wasting my time this far out (44 days out right now)? I realize I might get lucky on the day we're actually there, but it'd be nice to have it booked beforehand.
Thanks in advance~~

I mean, give it a try here and there as you have a free minute, you never know!
It is much more likely to happen day before or even day of.
The only way you will get it is if somebody cancels theirs and not many people are changing their FPs at this point. Once at WDW, though, people start changing stuff like crazy as plans change.

You never know. I just got a FoP for 3 that's 24 days out.

I think right before 30 days is a good time to keep an eye out. People with packages cancel at the last minute (before getting a fee). Don’t refresh though. Just check when you have the chance. Refresh the day before, morning before park open, and day of.

Wouldn't really waste a lot of time on this.
If they change the hours, look then as more FPs will be realeased.
Look the day before or day of.

I had 2 come up later in the same day. It was around noon, I was trying for the next hour or so, I was successful on our last trip. This time, I had 2 different ones come up but we were going to MVMCP and couldn't stay.

Which FP did you put On chopping block for exchange? Thx
I’ll keep trying but won’t obsess over it. I was going to trade our EE FP+ if I’m lucky enough to nab FOP. I figure we can use single rider or rope drop EE.

As always, my fellow DISers have offered great advice. Many, many thanks for all the replies and pointers. You guys are awesome.

I would say it's a waste of time. Likely, you'll have better luck on the day of. We were able to move up our late time AND ride it a second time.

It's way more forgiving and available once you're actually there.

I was able to procure or modify 7DMT, SDD, FOP, and TT all before our trip but I was probably too obsessive about it?

The poster who said it will be much easier once you’re there is 100% right, but I’d start checking more frequently 7 days before my arrival day, when other people who are there might be modifying things late in their trip (but early in yours).

Also keep an eye out for them to extend hours. Not sure they do that in February but during the summer they do. When they do they add more fastpasses
This has usually been my strategy and has worked very well, but at least for President's Day weekend, February hours have already been extended. The extended some MK weekend hours a few days ago. All current hours (MK, EP, DHS, AK) already match what the operating hours were last year for this same weekend. So, I was hoping there would be more operating hour extensions for February, but it's possible there won't be.

I've been checking once a day or so when I think of it and I just got Flight of Passage for 2 45 days out at a mid morning time I would have picked.

it is possible. :thumbsup2 About a week ago I was able to change my FOP for 2/12 from 6pm to 10am. I check randomly and was so shocked to see a 10am available.

I agree with PP's, it is easier to find something about 30 days out when those with packages decide not to go or change their dates, and 5-7 days out when people there are changing their plans and adjusting their FP's, and then day-of for the same reason. But like you, I am still checking at least a couple of times a day for our March trip. I've had better luck modifying dining reservations, but did manage to get a few earlier FP slots for other rides besides the "big three".
