Foot Pain? PF?

Are you sure its PF?

One of the hallmark symptoms of PF is pain when you first step in the morning or after resting because the plantars fascia has tightened up.

You could have tendonitis...you really should get a diagnosis. Unless I missed it in an earlier post that you have already been to a podiatrist?

As a last resort, you could rent an ECV for use during your trip to the parks.

Good luck! I hope you feel better soon.

I have successfully got rid of PF twice by wearing Crocs. The first time I had it I was miserable for months! Did the podiatrist thing, did orthotics, expensive tennis shoes to no avail. Crocs were just getting into stores and I bought a pair to wear to work (worked in nursing). My PF was gone in a week.

I started up with another flare of PF about 4 years ago. I got right online and bought a new pair of Rx Crrocs. Wore them as soon as they came in and again in one week PF was gone.

My bf was also able to get rid of his PF by wearing crocs and I know several others that have to. It is not for everyone, but it surely inexpensive enough that it is worth a try.

stretching exercises and rolling it on a ball helps but what really helped me was Dr. scholl's foot arch and ball support. I wear those with my tennis shoes black nice sketchers . Only flip flops I can wear are the black sketcher sport flip flops with arch support.

I also got reflexology and chiropractor alignments. I was bad for a year until I started doing better. To this day I still wear the Dr. Sholls shoe inserts for comfort and I don't ever want to get PF again!

New Balance sells consumer-grade shoes to Kohl's and Sears. They are style numbers in the 500s and 600s. One of my guys can wear them because he does not have foot problems. I need the 800s and 900s now. There is a big difference in the construction. If you try one style and that one does not work for you, another may work. It is very important to work with an experienced fitter who can suggest shoes constructed for what you need.

I'm thinking it's not PF because it's fine in the morning. Being hobbled up in the AM is a sign of PF. But I'm no Dr or expert.

For my PF, Orthaheel was the cure. (Cue choir of angels) Was in constant pain, and even though I've since gotten a job on my feet, I do not have symptoms as long as I wear my shoes. Hate wearing shoes indoors, but I know I'll pay if I don't.

Good luck finding what works for you!

For my foot issues, good arch support is key. Good supportive shoes, with an arch support insole save my sanity, and my foot pain. I have several different arch supports, Dr Scholls from Target work if I am wearing decent shoes.

I too had PF in both feet. I went to the Dr. and he set me up with a chiropodist, but he appointment was 2 months away. In the meantime, the Dr. gave me some exercises to do such as rolling my feet over golf balls while I watch tv, and stretching my feet by pulling the toes up toward the knees before I get out of bed. Before my appt. with the chiropodist, I hurt my back and went to a chiropractor. During treatments I mentioned my PF, so he treated my feet and gave me aditional exercises such as scrunching up a towel on the floor, with my toes. By the time I went to the chiropodist, my feet were 80% better. She checked my shoes out, and recomended I wear crocs for the cushioning. She liked my cowboy boots for the support they gave, but didn't care for my reabok running shoes at all. She recomended New Balance, but only certain styles. She gave me a list of her recomendations, which I have since thrown away. She approved of the exercises I was doing, but also recomended I stand on the bottom stair, holding onto the handrails, with my heels hanging over the edge. I would shift my weight from my toes, to the back, stretching the arch. By bending my knees, or leaning in various ways, I would exercise my ankles and knees as well as the feet. This was the best exercise yet. Since I had done my exercises so faithfully, I never did need orthotics. She explained that because my arch was so high, I was prone to PF, and I probably would have to do the exercises all my life. That wasn't exactly true, but when ever my feet start to give me any grief, I do the exercises for about 5 minutes, especially the feet on the stair exercises, and imediately I get relief for several months, till I experience trouble in my feet again.

I was having trouble with foot pain. Never got a diagnosis, so I'm not certain it was. I had worn cute little flip-flops all summer and my feet were killing me.

Finally got smart, stopped wearing those cute, silly flip-flops. I went to Kohl's and JC Penney, tried on a bunch of New Balance and other brands. Bought two different, but equally comfortable styles on a "BOGO" sale. Designated one for "outside" and one for "inside". I now have two different "inside" shoes. One pair is a New Balance slip-on for when I am at my desk most of the day and the other is a pair of New Balance cross-trainers for when I am on my feet during the day (or my feet are hurting a bit).

I agree with another poster, not all brands are for all feet, so try on a few different brands and styles. Take note if the styles are cross-trainers, walking, running, etc. Each style type does different things for your feet. And each style number within that style type does different things, too. For instance, I tend to walk on the outside edge of my foot. One NB walking shoe was great, but another was awful.

Hopefully you can find a brand where many (or a number) of the styles work for you. That way you can find one or more style numbers that are comfortable and stick with them. i.e. - I have three different cross-trainers, two different running, two slip-ons one walking and one trail running shoe that all seemed to work for me. In my case, all in NB.

Good luck!

this helped you ^ ?

I conquered PF in my right foot by:

1. Never going barefoot or wearing flip flops
2. Rolling a ball under my foot 2 x daily
3. Wearing really good running shoes (Saucony)when walking outside
4. Wearing DANSKO shoes to work
5. Slipping orthotics into my shoes

Worked like a charm. I now hike 90 minutes daily, no pain.

All I can say is get yourself a pair of Fit Flops.... Wearing these daily works magic! My sister had more serious PF and she tried orthotics, Dansko, Teva. I sent her Fit Flops and begged her to try them. She is sold on them....her foot pain is nearly gone after just 6 months. She had them on at Christmas with socks as her foot was acting.

I have also had PF and it comes and goes for me. I NEVER go barefoot…even in the house. I wear New Balance tennis shoes (the higher number the better) and Dansko only. I have a boot to sleep in (so not comfy) when it gets really bad, and the stretching exercises help as well (before I get out of bed).
I will not get the shots in my foot. I have been told it actually makes things worse (maybe better for a bit…but then worse). No thank you.
I hate the PF. Those who do not/have not had it = blessed!

Which FIT flops? I've also heard they're wonderful, not sure why or how, but more importanly, ANY of the ones they make?

Do a search on YouTube for "foot pain", tons of videos to help you narrow down your problem and some remedies to help.

I have been battling PF off and on in my right heel too. It was so bad at one point, I almost canceled a trip to Disney the summer of 2012, but I managed to make it through, partially with the help of having a stroller to lean on. Mine was brought on by many years of fencing (landing heel first on my right foot during lunges), being overweight and worst of all, going barefoot in the house.

I started the healing process by getting the custom Dr. Scholl's inserts (the ones by the machine that "maps" your feet at Wal-mart) and always wearing tennis shoes in the house (usually my last pair of mostly worn-out running shoes). I tried the night splint and it helped a bit but about halfway through the night, my toes were so numb that I had to take it off. I stretch every day before I get out of bed and I started taking a Magnesium supplement which I think has had the most beneficial effect. I lost 20 lbs. (still have more to go but every bit helps) and started running 3 days a week and so far my PF has stayed away. I don't even need the inserts anymore.

At the risk of sounding like a quack, have you tried essential oils? My massage therapist uses doterra oils and I was VERY skeptical, but after my tennis elbow was healed, I'm sold. I suffered through 10 days of pain before our trip and 8 days at wdw with no relief and little sleep. When I got home I started using the oils (out of desperation). After two days I had a quite a bit bit of relief and after 7-8 days the pain was completely gone. I used fractionated coconut oils as a carrier (because you only use a few drops of each essential oil so the coconut oil allows you to cover a lot of area). I read a lot about tennis elbow and the prognosis wasn't great. I used a blend called deep blue and added frankincense and peppermint. I applied it morning and night. The frankincense is spendy but they are having a special for December to get it free with a $200 purchase (I know, eek right?).

I know a lot of people don't buy into the whole oil mentality and we certainly wouldn't use them in a life threatening or even extremely serious situation (like strep throat) but we have had really great luck with them. Going a little ot on this, my husband gets bronchitis at least twice each winter. Last year when we started using oils, he started putting a blend called on guard in his juice or tea each morning. Last winter he wasn't sick once and this year he's also been healthy so far.

We go to Disney in May. I've had foot issues since Sept-never had issues up until Sept.

Went to the orthopedic dr but saw the physician assistant who diagnosed it as PF. Saw a PT who treated it as PF for 2months with no change. Tried all kinds of foot stretches, inserts etc and nothing helped. Some made my back hurt!

Went back and saw an actual DR, not the assistant, this time who said it's actually tendonitis and tight hips, calves, glutes etc could be causing it. I also never had the morning, get out of bed extreme pain. Switched me to a different PT.

I've only been going to the new PT for 2 weeks. But she seems to know more and have more experience with how the body works together and how issues elsewhere can cause foot pain. For example, my hips were not alligned-one higher than the other making one leg shorter. She believes it's related.

Running Store was awesome in helping me find the right shoes…..totally worth it! I actually have Aasics so brand depends on your foot. Imagine it would be hard to order online!

Hoping and praying I"m ok for Disney walking!!! If all else fails….Ibuprofen and ice for Disney!!!
