Foods Touching on Plates

The Thanksgiving Leftovers sandwich is a classic. It's for this very reason that I like to have a nice sourdough or other loaf bread at Thanksgiving in addition to the typical rolls. Then the next day, you pile the leftovers on that bread to make a sandwich. Turkey, dressing/stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, roasted Brussels sprouts--delicious! I don't put any gravy on there though, unlike Monica from Friends with her "moist maker."

I'm okay with food touching, sometimes I even eat them mixed together like mashed potatoes and corn (sorry if that grosses anyone out!) but I did have a friend growing up who was like this where the food had to be separated. She would eat it if it touched but only the portion of the food that didn't touch the other food so there would always be leftover food on her plate if the foods ended up touching because of that. I have heard of people who will not eat the food at all if any part of it touched another of their food.
This is me. I ordered wings the other day. They put ranch (in a cup) on the plate. Some of it slopped over and touched my wings. Nope. Can’t eat the wings the ranch touched. Not even wiping it off will help. I think that might why my husband married me. He eats what I won’t.

Anybody hate different foods touching each other on their plates?

I’m still a bit squeamish about it, but I used to be really bad as a kid. Ewwww, the meat loaf has mashed potato germs on it!!!!

My mother eventually bought me a dish with dividers built in.

Back then things like these didn’t work too well, because string bean juice could seep underneath and contaminate the fish sticks.

And those foil wrapped TV dinners from the stone age. Somehow a pea or two ended up in the turkey or even worse, in the apple compote dessert. :scared1:

I liked my grammar school cafeteria with its divided trays for lunch. No plates.

If anything, younger DD was even worse than me.
;) Stop being a weirdo, Red. Foods touching is fine. What is totally intolerable though is being expected to use the same fork for the meal and then dessert.

My step-daughter is one of those people who freaks out about food touching on a plate. I seriously don't care myself, it doesn't bother me one bit.

When I was a kid I wouldn't eat any part of the food that touched another food. My mom was ok with it but my grandparents were the type you sit at the table until you clean your plate. There were some long nights for me at that table. I'm much better about it now, but I still prefer things stay separate.

I don’t like food touching at all, but can tolerate it better than when I was a kid. As a kid, I would love to go to my grandparents as their everyday dishes had the dividers. I still will leave some food on my plate if it is too bad. DS doesn’t like food touching either. DH could care less, he eats anything. LOL

A perfect match then 😁😁

Makes me sick but I pretend like it doesnt bother me, so people wont know how neurotic I am , its important to hide your crazy

JUST the opposite, makes me sick, I make sure EVERYONE knows, so people think I’m crazy, and anyone with me is embarrassed to know me !:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Ooops, I’m sorry that I embarrassed you and your other guests last time. I’ll try to remember this etiquette rule for your next fancy soirée. That is, if I’m still invited after my unforgivable uncultured behavior.

(Hey, since I wasn’t permanently banned after the noodle salad fiasco, I guess a mere fork faux pas doesn’t really matter too much.:teeth:)

Yes, but I don’t want it mixed up NOW.
This is exactly how I feel.

At home I find myself using smaller plates and little bowls to keep things separate when plating my meals. It is not unusual to have a luncheon or dessert plate and three small bowls for a meal. It helps that I live alone so their is no one judging! The only downside is the extra dishes to wash.
