Foods that you refuse to purchase for your family
String cheese is real cheese.....:thumbsup2
I still don't believe it. I don't believe it's cheese any more than I believe the Kraft slices are cheese. But at least the Kraft slices taste good on a burger :rotfl:

Really the only things we dont buy are things that contain peanuts or eggs because of allergies.

We very rarely buy cookies/packaged snacks because i make my own.
We make chex mix, granola, cookies, rice krispie treats, etc.

We basically buy everything in moderation.

It's cheese food! I assume that means it is what cheese eats.

To add to the discussion at hand, I will not buy fruit, of any kind.

For the most part, everything in moderation. I (sometimes) drink a soda once a week with pizza. The kids aren't interested in soda (I hope that continues!). I do buy chips and cookies occasionally. They go stale before we finish them. We just don't eat that kind of thing very often. Hoping the food saver will help with that.

I don't buy organic foods or free range chicken.

We don't buy beer. I have some wine for cooking and some champagne that Disney gave us for our anniversary, they'll probably go bad before they are consumed.

I stopped buying canned tomato sauces, only sauces in glass now, because I read where the acidity breaks down the can and can be carcinogenic. It wasn't that big of a deal to switch.

I don't buy anything with MSG in it, it plays havoc with my seizure disorder. For the same reason, nothing with artificial sweetners. My neurologist has confirmed that both artificial sweetners and MSG can be major neurological triggers for people who suffer from migraines or seizures.

I also try to avoid things with HFCS. I don't think its a catastrophe if we eat a little of it, but I do my best to avoid it.

DH loves Mountain Dew, takes one a day with his lunch to work. He REALLY likes the Throwbacks (cane sugars, not HFCS), so we are stocking up on them while we can get them. I was SO excited to read that they will be releasing a "Heritage Dr. Pepper".. I don't drink hardly any soda at all, but sometimes I crave a Dr. Pepper SOOOO badly. Now I can have one with no HFCS!!

Only other things I refuse to buy are onions. Everyone in the house hates them - DH and I literally feel ill if we eat them.

We don't buy anything with
High Fructose Corn syrup. (I'm not supposed to have any)
Aspertame or Splenda or any artifical sweetner.
Or MSG (my little brother can't have any)

It's really surprising what MSG is in.

I steer away from all of the above too.

Hamburger helper or similar things like that
Canned chili, most canned soups (there are a few I will buy).
Cookies
I'm sure there are a lot more ;)

My husband loves Hamburger Helper Stroganoff, so I buy it for the sauce mix and noodles and add strips of thin steak instead of hamburger. It's not bad, really.

It's very common in Europe so perhaps the PP is European? But really, an ounce is so little.

For some reason I was thinking she wasn't, but maybe you're right. I agree it won't hurt her and might help her even, but I was just wondering what the laws are about it. My "What?" was being I didn't understand the sentence.

What?

Does her doctor know? Now I'm wondering about what the laws say about this.
Um, no her doctor does not know, but in my state: Minors may legally consume an alcoholic beverage if it is consumed in the visible presence of the minor's adult parent, guardian, or spouse.

No we are not European.

I believe in moderation as well. It usually takes an entire month to go through a 12 pack of soda as we drink tea and water more.

The one thing I refuse to buy in any canned product where the meat is already in it like Meat Sauce for spaghetti or ravioli with meat (Chef boyaradee). I do not even want to think about what kind of chemicals they put in those to keep the meat from going rancid.

Yeah, I really have to watch my labels. between avoiding that, and avoiding HFCS, I spend an inordinately large amount of time standing in the aisles of the grocery store reading labels. :rotfl:

Oh yeah, I totally understand. I wasn't meaning to be snarky either. Europe just came to mind when I read PP's first post. ;)

Um, ok. I was just curious. I'll have to look up our state laws. I didn't think minors could consume alcohol at all here. We have given our son a glass of champagne on special occasions (once or twice a year). He's 16 now, but I think he was 12 the first time we offered it to him.

I won't buy any dairy or meat product that is from animals that are being given hormones and antibiotics. Any dairy or meat that is not organic, or is not labeled hormone/antibiotic free, has them.

We stopped drinking soda so I no longer buy that.

The only thing I never bought for my kids was soda - nor did they ever ask for it - so I'm pretty sure they weren't scarred for life..;)

I allowed most everything else - in moderation..:goodvibes

I am an everything in moderation parent so there isn't much I would refuse to buy. There are a lot of things that I make at home so don't buy like bread, poptarts, cookies and such.

The only real thing I won't buy is canned meat. Meat should not be shelf stable.
