Foods from your childhood, long gone

Anything that my grandma made, she cooked from her head not recipes, but everything was incredible...

I miss Jello Puddin Pops!
I loved these! We only got them when we went to our grandparents house. I also loved Crunch Tators potato chips.

I miss Kayo...a chocolate drink similar to Yahoo.

Here are a few of mine:

Tootsie Pop Drops (tootsie pops w/o the stick(think a little larger than a starlight mint))

Tato Skins (do they still make these I haven't seen them in awhile)

I'd forgotten about the pop drops. Those were good

Tato Skins chips? I'm pretty sure I've seen them at Wal-Mart in the chip aisle.

Well being from the UK originally, I have to say most of my childhood comforts are not available....wah! :sad1:

Actually sad to say, I actually had a dream last night where I went into an English newsagent and was stood decided which candy and potato chips to get (which makes you wonder what a truly exciting life I must lead, if these are my dreams!) The range of potato chips (crisps) in the UK is mind blowing..that would be what I miss from my childhood. They have a really short shelf life, so it's not something that's very practical to have sent over. I actually went online to see if I could get some, and they were selling them by the box load (48 packs) which was really expensive, about $1 a packet. I decided I didn't miss them that much (my waist line is in agreement)

I miss...

Chicken Tonight Sweet & Sour
Russell Stover's pink chocolate Easter Eggs
And Kraft's Parm Plus (Garlic and Herb).

Actualy this subject came up here a couple years ago an I posted about the Parm Plus. Wagamam was so kind to send me a link to where I could order some, however I have recently tried again, and am having no luck. I made the best meatloaf with this cheee and cant make it anymore. :(

I just reread this thread and the Bonamos Turkish Taffy (which my brother loved) reminded me of Shake-A-Puddin'. It was a plastic container of pudding which you had to shake up to mix the ingredients. It was awesome!

My mom made "Old Woman Soup". It was diced potatos and sliced hot dogs with some onion and celery in the broth. My boys loved it. She also made a really good German chocolate cake (without coconut). My grandmother made an awsome rice pudding and great pies. My other grandmother made a salad with hot bacon dressing that was great. I don't eat meat anymore but I loved all of the above as a kid.

oh my gosh - do you have the recipe for that soup! I think its gross, but DH's Nana used to make it and called it Hot Dog Casserole. DH loved it!!!

My thing is I can never get my london broil and mushrooms to come out as tasty and tender as my mom's!

My DH misses Lemon Cooler cookies, but what I really miss is an ice cream sandwich that I used to get in school.

It was called Cool-a-Coo but I'm not certain of the spelling. It was two oatmeal cookies with vanilla ice cream in the middle and it was all dipped in chocolate. Oh, it was delish!!!!

Anyone remember this? I wonder if it's still out there somewhere? :confused3

Okay - to stick with my hotdog theme...and these are things that are still around.

Anyone ever have hotdog boys? Mom would take a hot dog, slice it up from the bottom about 1/3 of the way to make legs, then make little slits in the sides to make arms. When you fry them in a skillet they curl up. Then use mustard or ketchup for eyes or buttons! Creative way to make food fun.

She also used to slice hot dogs on pizza! Wierd, but very YUMMY!!!

And who didnt love a good fried bologna sandwich?

Mine is still on the market, but they changed the formulation in the 1980's of Golden Grain's Noodles Romanoff. Egg noodles in a sour cream, cheddar sauce. It used to be soooooo good.

For those that are missing their Marathon Bar. Available in the UK is the Curly Wurly by Cadbury. It's very close, even looks like the Marathon, and oh so good. I have a friend that sends a couple to me every year.

I miss:

JELLO 1 - 2- 3! Foam, sauce and jellyjammy!!!

Big, thick, gooey Mallo cups!!! They had little cardboard "coins" that you could collect for freebies!

Ice cream sandwiches at Kmart for .10

Kmart sliced ham!!!

I miss the old mallo cups too. I've seen them around recently, but they're nowhere near as good as they used to be.

The one food from my childhood that I really miss was called "Food Sticks" or "Food Stix" I can't really remember. They were about as thick as a tootsie roll, and marketed in the breakfast aisle. They were in flavors of chocolate, peanut butter and butterscotch. I used to love those!!!!

Also, for those of you missing chocolate Cool Whip, I was just at my local grocery store and there it was in the freezer! Thought you'd like to know it looks like it's making a comeback for the holiday season.

Aww man!!!!!!!!! They took away my Dunkaroos!!!! I loved those things! Anything but my Dunkaroos!!

I used to make DD 'homemade' Dunkaroos because it would cost about the same but last much longer....Teddy Grahams and cake frosting (the kind in the container). If you get a craving, give it a try!
