Foods from your childhood, long gone

Does anyone remember Bugles? They were a corn-based chip like snack, shaped (obviously) like bugles, small and pointed at one end and rounded out at the other.

I remember putting them on my fingers as a kid and pretending that they were my long "nails" and eating them. The things kids pretend to do!!

Did you know they still make these?

We still have Bugles here, and they're still one of my favorite snacks!

I loved Egg Noodles and Cheese - they came in a box with the powdered cheese stuff. Kinda like mac & cheese but they tasted a little better.

Really?!?! I didn't know that. I'll have to check and see if they're available here in Colorado.

Thanks mickeysgal and Cyndirella!!

Shasta soda. I never see it on any shelves. I loved it when I was a kid. It cost a WHOLE dime!

We still have Shasta out here in the west. My favorite thing though was Fizzies. Does anyone else remember these? You added I believe 2 tablets to a glass of water and you had a soda.

Sure, they still have Bugles! DD likes to call them "witches fingers." They're one of my favorites--I don't buy them too often because I'll eat the whole bag.

My grandma used to make the best homemade apple strudel :goodvibes

Sadly, she got Alziemers (sp) and the recipie is lost forever :guilty:

We just got some Bugles -- they were cheese flavored and really good! You could taste the Bugley goodness with just a hint of cheese.

I LOVE Bugles - but I had a hard time finding them, not realizing they were no longer in the box I remembered but now come in bags, like chips. I prefer the boxes, but at least they still taste the same. My kids like to stick them in thier mouths whole and then stick the tip out, It looks like a snake tongue - lol!

Laurie :)

Since I am quite a bit older than a lot of you (I am 52) I don't think many will remember this. When I was a kid there was a candy bar that seems to be called 7 "something". Anyway it had 7 sections and each one was different, but all covered in chocolate. One was solid chocolate, one was coconut, one was a chocolate cream, one a jelly type, and so one, but it was wonderful!!! :goodvibes

I looked that up and it was called "Seven Up." I found it on this site, but now it's called a Sky bar: http://www.oldtimecandy.com/skybar.htm

That is so funny, when everyone was talking about Marathon bars I thought of the 7-UP bars! I am not quite as old as you but I remember going down to the local 5 and 10 cent store, remember those, and buying 7-UP bars!

Oh and for all you Bugle lovers, the Nacho cheese ones are awesome.

My mother made the best tacos. She used the Old El Paso taco shells in the can. Sadly Old El Paso ceased making them. None of the other taco shells I have tried even come close. My mother use to make the best gravy to go with fried chicken and I have tried to recreate it to no avail.

My mom made the best meatloaf ever. I still can't make a meatloaf come even close to hers. Another one was her fried chicken. My dad used to make baked chicken that was out of this world. I have no clue how he did it. Maybe I should have paid more attention when I was a child.
I looked at the list of no longer made foods and I can't believe they don't make chocolate Cool Whip anymore! I also used to love Bonkers fruit chews!

I LOVED THE MARATHON BAR! What a bummer they don't make it anymore! :(

I just bought a Sky Bar not that long ago, after seeing them on Unwrapped! We have an old-time retro-type candy shop here and they have a lot of the older candy you can't fine most places.

I REMEMBER FIZZIES!!!!!!!!
I loved them! I remember we had some metal cups that we used to make our Fizzies in! MMMMM!!!!!!!!!
How about Shake-a Pudding?

I loved Doritos Taco Flavor chips! My dad used to buy these and they were so good!

I really miss the chocolate drinks like Chocolate Soldier and Nesbitt's. They were like Yoo-Hoo's, but even better.

I used to love the PBMax candy bars. It was like a cookie/patty type bottom covered in peanut butter and then coated in chocolate. They stopped making those when I was in high school.

:guilty:

I saw Shasta soda at the dollar store a couple of days ago. I hadn't seen it in ages.
