We will be in transit for about 11 hours, so no perishables please! What can I pack in my luggage (checked) that I can use for some easy meals in a condo that has a full kitchen? Keep in mind, my suitcase has to be under 50 lbs, so no really heavy things either.

I have already covered cereal, snacks...trying to think of either lunch or dinner ideas.

Would you try to pack pasta sauce? Are there any brands in plastic jars? Maybe in bubble wrap?

I am already packing PB/J and bread...maybe I will find some single serve mayo packs and pack tuna cans.

Help! You guys are much more creative than I am! THANKS!

What about tuna helper, pancake mix and bacon (the one already cooked-no refrigeration needed). I hope this helps.

Assuming from your post you are flying? Why dont you go to the grocery store when you arrive? Or if no car I am sure that there are stores who will deliver. Is that a possibility instead of your luggage?

I've never gone beyond packing cereal and granola bars. But for meals I would try dry pastas such as spaghetti. You can get dry packets to make alfredo sauce (add milk there). Kraft Dinner is an easy bet, same goes for Lipton Sidekicks (Im in Canada, these are just rice and pastas that you put in a pot of boiling water-come with seasoning inside). Instant potatoes (box...take out of box to pack as they are in packets). I am sure you could even find soups that are in packets (envelops) where you'd just add water. Also, Mr Noodles(if it's the same where you are Im not sure...noodles in a plastic wrap..almost looks like a tight square of noodles with a foil seasoning packet). As for fruits, apples COULD bruise, but are pretty tough. Just peel them at the condo to take off the bruises. Meats-you can get canned ham, tuna (tuna comes here in little cans that are seasoned for different flavors), canned (same size as tuna) hame, chicken, turkey. Good to mix with mayo. Luncheon meat (if you like it.) You can also get cured meats that don't need refridgerating. I love something sweet for dessert, again with a chocolate dipped granola bar, chocolate bars even. The last thing I can thing of is juices that are pre mixed with sugar that you add water to. Tang would be one example. Or a container of Kool Aid.
I try to buy 2/3 fresh produce and meats and such, but this is your vacation, so I wouldn't worry over it. Do what makes it easy on you. :) Oh you can also do boxes of powder Jello and pudding. So easy to mix up. (just made some and is sitting in the fridge for the kiddos).
Hope this helps!!

I also wanted to point out that I did a search for rental cars for us (we decided not to bother) but you can get a small car for about $40 for 1 day. Worth the trip to a Super walmart to get all the fresh stuff you need and not worry about what food to bring on the flight. (50lbs adds up fast)

We pack Knorr brand noodles or rice to go with locally purchased meat. Crackers and maybe one can of soup to get us through the first meal. Mac and cheese boxes. Anything that is reasonably light and doesn't take up a ton of room.

I pack Hunt's pasta sauce. It's in a can.

For our first night at DVC, before we go to the store, I also like the Zatarains line of New Orleans foods like Jambalaya and Red Beans and Rice. You can add a can of shrimp and chicken to them.

We do a store run and pick up eggs, milk, a veggie tray of carrots, tomatoes, mushrooms, that we can munch on and cook with, and some meats.

11 hour flight from NY? :confused3

I wouldn't pack much more than what you already have planned. And SKIP the sauce. Baggage handlers just toss those suckers on the belt and plane ;) Spaghetti clothes probably wouldn't be an ideal start to your trip. lol

If not renting a car, maybe catch a taxi/bus for a quick store run.

Thx everyone for the ideas so far...I should have said, we are flying first to Miami, then a short layover, then to Aruba...we get in very late at night so I don't know when we will be able to get to a grocery store...I have VERY picky kids and it's sometimes hard to eat out meal after meal, so I want to have some sure bets on hand for the room, especially for lunch time.

You guys have mentioned foods I would have never thought of!

Ah, got it :) I hope you have enough ideas to tide you over until you can poke around the food stores there. Have fun!

We always ship a box to our resort to arrive a couple of days before we get there, and use Fed Ex, so we can track it. In it we put snacks, diapers, wipes, ponchos, etc. These are things that aren't coming back with us anyway.

If it's Disney you are going to, why not do a grocery delivery service? They deliver many other places besides Disney. gardengrocer.com is who I have used several times, and I have been very pleased.

-I always pack seasonings-salt and pepper at the very least. I also bring Tony's Chachere, bay leaves, garlic, etc. but we're from Louisiana and use a ton of seasoning. That way I don't have to buy it in large (expensive) quantities at the store. I use either Ziplocs or old pill bottles that have been thoroughly washed.

I also bring things like our brand of coffee and other stuff I may not be able to find on a quick trip to the store in Florida.
