Food: Serenity Bay vs. Family Beach

I heard this from someone who was on the 5/4 Eastern Magic and wanted to check with y'all experts.

The person and her DH spent their day on Castaway at the Serenity Bay for the first time (they have young kids, so, like us, they spent their previous visits at the Family Beach.) Anyway, they told us the food at SB is much better than at FB. She said they had lobsters and seafood; whereas, from what I could recall, FB only had chicken, hotdogs & burgers. Is what she told us true???

There IS a slightly different lunch buffet at Serenity Bay but when I ate there no one was getting lobster. :D I've had lobster BURGERS served once (at Cookies, actually) but not lobster itself. When I ate there Serenity Bay had steak sandwiches, burgers, veggie burgers (VERY tasty) and I think they had a fish sandwich too, plus fruit and salads. It was quite good! :D

For those of us burdened with children (just joking!!! please don't flame me!), would it be worth it to send my DH to the adults only beach to fetch lunch for us back at the family beach? A steak sandwhich sounds much better than a hamburger or hotdog.

Peg, no, it's really not worth it in my opinion. There's really no good way to CARRY the food and he'd have to schlep it back on the tram with him to the Family Beach. It's a nice lunch but I don't think it is so much nicer than the Cookies lunch that it's worth sending your husband on a lunch expedition. ;) :D

way back in January, I ate a grilled salmon filet on a hoagie bun sandwich, DH had a steak sandwich and there were lobster burgers at Serenity Bay. I don't think it would be any better than what was offered at Cookies but since I wasn't there I don't know for sure. Much better than the food was the lack of hot whiney kids:)

ps: I love kids, just not hot whiney ones!:D

We find the adult beach selection to be more limited...fruit for dessert and only garden salad, potato salad, and cole slaw for side dishes (plus no ribs), but overall it's worth it if you want to be lazy. We had lobster tails (yep, tails, not burgers!) there too on our Magic cruise but haven't seen that on the Wonder. I thought maybe it was a leftover from the inaugural, but the crew members there said they have 'em all the time. Anyone know if that's true? Are we getting cheated on the Wonder?! If so, hubby will try to use it as an excuse to force me to switch to 7-day cruises.

So, my friend wasn't kidding! They do serve lobster, although only sometimes! We'll have to make sure to check it out when we are there. Does anyone know how Disney decides on when to serve lobsters? Is it as inkkognito speculated, on the 7-day and not the 3/4 day cruises? If not, can anyone who was served lobster at SB, please provide their cruise date and duration? Maybe we can find a pattern here... :D :) :D :)

I would think (and this is only speculation), that the lobster tails are served on CC whenever they have tails left over from the Captain's Gala (or whichever night is "lobster night" onboard).

I'm sure there are a certain number of lobster tails on board each cruise as an approximation of how many they think will be ordered on lobster night. If they don't all go then, they get served at CC, maybe?

Cruise, that's my hubby's theory too, although we weren't able to confirm it. He totally embarrassed me by having FOUR of those tails on CC!!!

We were at CC on June 21, and they were serving grilled lobster tails at Serenity Bay. They also had the other food items people have listed in this thread.

I also assumed that the lobster was left over from dinner on Thursday night. We ate at Palos on Thursday night and I had a wonderful lobster tail (approx. 12 oz.). The tails served on CC were halved, but looked to be about the same size as the one I had at Palos. Yum!
