My dd is having her 5th birthday this Saturday and I thought it would be fun if for one of the activities the kids could "paint" their Mickey Head shaped cookie with icing--as is (or was) done at some of the restaurants at DW. I'm just wondering though if I need to buy special paintbrushes to do this or if just a pack from Target would work.

Do you have a cake or candy supply near your home? I would call them to ask. Also, Michael's, etc. might sell the Wilton ones. You just need to make sure that the bristles don't come out easily.

Sounds fun!

Thank you for the Michael's suggestion--I went there this morning and they did have them in their pastry aisle. Now I can't tell any difference from these and the other cheaper ones that come in a pack of 12 for considerably less, but at least I feel better about using paint brushes that are at least packaged for a specific purpose.

We did this once, but we used popcicle sticks since it was icing and then we let them use different sprinkles and such (you can find mickey head sprinkles on eBay from some cake suppliers, I couldn't find them locally).

Basting brushes. They sell them everywhere super cheap, and you can cut out some bristles if they are too broad. Look in the kitchen aisles in Walmart, Target, Kmart, Big lots, etc. They are already food safe, and much cheaper and easier to clean than special Wilton brushes.
