Food poison??

You can get sick from "food poisoning" up to 48 hrs after you ate the food, depending on what type on food poisoning it is (Ecoli, Salmonella etc..) I wash my hands just before I eat and only touch my food if I have touched NOTHING else between washing my hands and eating. Besides serving spoons etc, there are MASSIVE amounts of bacteria, viruses etc on mobile phones, door handles, money etc.

I find this really interesting. My niece and her husband and 8 year old nephew returned from Disney about 6 weeks ago. They drove so no plane air. The next day was school day and my nephew said he didn't feel well...well long story short he ended up with a 24 hour stay in the hosp with IV's for severe dehydration from either food poisoning or virus (nausea mostly...but this seems ironically similar...

That sound like exactly what was wrong with me but I was in there for three days and the dehydration had gotten so bad I was having kidney failure!

I got sick two days into my honeymoon. I was throwing up, the other, nauseous, heartburn, fever and I swore that I got it from crystal palace. I can't eat there now. But I know it was probably a virus. It lasted from tuesday until I got home. We actually booked an extra day at a dtd hotel because I was still throwing up on Saturday. My immune system was probably low from the stress of planning a wedding and college finals. I really should have gone to the hospital. What a romantic honeymoon!!! LOL:sick: :scared:

Just got back from our trip Nov 4- 10th in the parks. DS and DH came down with diarreah and vomiting Friday night Nov 7th that lasted 48 hours

Prior to their illnesses we ate at CRT for breakfast and Crystal Palace for dinner on the 5th, O'hana breakfast and Teppan Edo dinner on the 6th, and Chef Mickey breakfast and H&V dinner on the 7th. Dh and DS became sick approx 3 hours after eating at H&V. Who knows what meal did it... but I suspect it was food poisioning.

Sorry to all the folks sitting near us at the 7 PM Fantasmic Show on the 7th- my DS (age 2.5) experienced the onset of his vomiting during this show..... ewwwww. BTW the Castmember who helped us was a Godsend and I am in the process of writing a letter praising her assistance- top notch!

It is very hard to determine food poisoning unless it is reported and therefore you know that many people that ate a certain food at a particular location became ill. So it could be food poisoning and it could just as likely not be.

We have eaten hundreds of meals at Disney and never once gotten sick including many buffets.

When on vacation many things can make one ill, exposure to so many people who do not use proper hygiene such as washing hands. The rides are full of germs.

Change of eating habits and change of the type of food can certainly play havoc on the system, as can just the excitement of being there.

Last June we took DS, DDIL and the 2 grandkids. Two days into the trip, I got either food poisoning, mild e.coli, or something of that nature. We were on the dining plan and we all ate at Electric Umbrella for lunch - everyone had burgers except me, I had a veggie wrap. We had Le Cellier ressies for dinner that night (!) and by dinnertime, I couldn't even stand the thought of food. I sat thru dinner praying not to throw up, while my DH and DS ate my steak!! I threw up all night, and the rest of the trip I was able to go everywhere and do most everything, but I couldn't eat or stand the smell of food. It lasted for about 10 days. Bet I'm one of the few who actually LOST weight while at Disney and on the dining plan!!

Like Sammie says--simply saying you got food poisoning does not make it so.

And it is not really fair to the restaurants that get "blamed" for food poisoning when you don't have a diagnosis.

I got pregnant two months after our honeymoon. I told my obgyn dr. what happened at disney and all of my symptoms and he said it was likely that it was food poisoning. I still just don't know but I ate at crystal palace for dinner and I was sick right after we got back to the room.

My cousin is at WDW right now. Her mom and dad (Stage 4 cancer) watched their 2 and 4 yo so my cousin and her DH could go on a "date" (with only the 3 mth old sleeping in his sling :lovestruc )About midnight she started getting sick and just stopped in the last 2 hours. Food poisoning? Who knows. Some food that affected her stomach? Very possible. Luckily her DH is a Dr., and he seems to think it was the food. Hopefully it was, because the last thing we need it to be is a virus as my uncle is here to see his beloved grandsons on their first trip to WDW. Not to get sick in his still OK, but definitely weakened, state.

I didn't post the name of the restaurant they ate at, because as a few PPs have posted, it is unfortunate for the restaurants that are labeled as "places we got food poisoning" when there are many possible answers for these symptoms. (Undercooked individual meal, previously unrecognized food allergy, cross contamination; to name a few kitchen related ones.) The sheer number of people at the parks, hotels, all WDW facilities (and the rest of the world we live in on a daily basis) make me want to have my hands treated with a permanent antimicrobial coating!
I have, however, been online here all morning hoping to see someone else post that they got sick last night after eating at ____________.
