Hello!

I understand the rules about liquids with your carry-on bags. My question is about food. We are planning on taking some snacks and a box of cereal with (for breakfast in the hotel). It is ok if it is in our carry-on if it is an un-opened box of cereal and an un-opened box of Granola Bars? I think due to space it will be easier to put in our carry-on bags.

Thanks!

I have never had a problem. I usually take a hugh bag of trail mix in my carry on everytrip. Its a nice snack for hunger pains while flying.

I always pack snacks in my carryon just so I don't have to buy anything at the airports and to have some during the vacation. I usually bring a few different ones. No problem at all and I have lots of individual packs rather than pack the boxes.

Thanks for all of the responses.

One more question. We land around noon in Orlando. My DD4 usually likes to eat lunch around 11:30 and we will be eating a very early breakfast. Any chance I can make a PB&J sandwich and bring that with. My concern was that it isn't a new boxed item like Granola Bars or a box of Cereal.

Also - what do people usually do on the airplane so the kids don't spill the drinks that the airplane provides (we are flying Southwest). She usually doesn't do sippy cups any more, but with an airplane don't want to chance it. Do you suggest I bring one?

Thanks again!

Not sure about if the PB+J sandwich would be a problem (?) but what about "Uncrustables" they are sealed in plastic.

Sandwiches are fine, as is any food that isn't liquid or gel. So you can't bring peanut butter (over 3oz) but you can bring a pb&j sandwich. You can't bring cream cheese (over 3oz) but you can bring a bagel with cream cheese on it, etc.

I always make sandwiches when we fly and pack a "lunch" for everyone. I also bring granola, fruit, crackers and snacks in a soft sided lunch cooler. For an ice pack I use frozen grapes or carrots.

Although its allowed I would avoid pb in case someone onboard has an allergy - or at least have a backup sandwich.

I would bring a sippie cup or maybe a reusable sports bottle if you don't want to go back to sippies. Just pack it empty and fill it as you need. FWIW I always purchase our drinks in the airport, after security but before boarding. This way we have a better selection and can have a drink when we want one rather than waiting for the FA. I also like the fact that they are re-sealable vs the cups the FA's pour.

All the specifics can be found on tsa.com - including a great section on flying with kids.

For domestic flights, they don't care if the items are boxed or packaged or in ziploc or lunch bags, or whether the box is opened or sealed. All they care about is whether it can be classified a liquid, gel or paste.

Yes you can go past security with a peanut butter sandwich - but you can't go past security with a jar of peanut butter. Be aware of the possibility that if there happens to be a peanut-allergic passenger on your flight you may be requested to not open any products containing peanuts. Consider bringing something other than peanut butter, or bring some other snacks without peanut products in them so your child will have something to eat if this should happen.

Thanks so much for the responses. I didn't even think of Peanut Allergies. I might jut do bagel with cream cheese or something else.

Thanks again!
