We are going to Hilton Head in 23 days for a week. It will be just DH and I and we are looking for some recommendations for good restaurants. We know we want seafood one night so we are looking for the best seafood place. Please keep in mind that I do not like seafood so it needs to be a place with other items too. Also, we are looking for the best steak on the island. Any kind of rec's you can give us would be great! We don't want anything to fancy (with the exception of the seafood and steak) because we prefer to dress casually on vacation.

Thanks!

Kristine

Well, I've never been to Hilton Head before (going Summer 2008) but I did want to share what I saw on Rachel Ray's show $40 a day recently. She visited a few places that looked really good. The first was "Signes" for breakfast. She had blackberry french toast that was there specialty. Very casual place, order at the counter and take a seat. The second place was the "Sea Shack" for lunch. The owner catches the seafood that morning and then marinates and grills it. Looked great and was again a very casual, order at the counter place. The 3rd place she went to for dinner was "Hudsons". Again a seafood place, but I don't know if they offered chicken or beef. I'm sure locals or frequent visitors will be able to answer that. Have fun!

I recommend all the places Rachel Ray went to. Also, Salty Dog in Sea Pines for casual seafood. I've never been to Scott's Fish Market, but others on this board have recommended it.

Skip Kingfishers, just outside the resort. The place just to the right, leaving the resort is good, though I cant remember the name. Stickey Fingers is good. We preferred the Salty Dog for lunch, but dinner was good too. And there's a little hole in the wall joint for pizza we really liked: NYC Pizza, I think its called.

We ate at the Red Fish, I think is the name. It is not too far from Sticky Fingers. My DH doesn't like seafood either, except fish. I don't remember what he had, but we both enjoyed our evening. We made reservations, but I don't think we really needed them. When you check in at HH, they will give you a Restaurant Guide. Some of the places even have menus in the guide.

Have a great time.

When staying a week at HH this summer, we ate at both Scott's Market and Hudsons. Scott's is a little higher end in atmosphere and price, but very good. However, I really liked Hudson's (after driving around searching for it). Very casual and laid back with an emphasis on seafood. Seemed popular with people 'in the know.'

By the way, the water tasted awful on the island at most places. Unless that was only a summer issue, get drinks that come from a bottle.

And if you like breakfast, the Original Pancake House has awesome baked omelettes along with decent pancakes. :worship:

Just back from 2 weeks ago; we ate at Old Oyster Factory and it was good but more upscale than we desired. Hudson's will be where we have seafood next time- the guide they handed out does give menus, prices, etc.
We were close to the Piggly Wiggly and they have a great deli/bakery.
We ended up getting pastries, rotisserie chicken and salad bar to take back to the room for dinner one night.

We went last august and ate at old oyster factory we thought it was overpriced and food was marginal. Salty Dog was good but the three hour wait was tuff.

I think you can probably get a good steak at either Alexander's (in Palmetto Dunes, you pass it on the way to the Disney beach house) or Old Fort Pub, which is in Hilton Head Plantation (up in the general vicinity of Hudson's, but you have to actually enter HHP). Those are only two of the nicer restaurants we tend to go to, but there are literally hundreds of them on the island.

I've also heard great things about Stripes, which is near Sea Pines Circle, but we have never eaten there. Also, we tend to eat seafood, not steak while we're there. ;)

The best idea is to pick up the restaurant guide (the front desk at the resort often has them) and take your time looking through it.

Sticky Fingers is a given on all our trips, usually twice. We are suckers for BBQ, and it is very good.

Sea Shack has great seafood, just don't be afraid of the exterior, it looks like a real dive.

Fuddruckers is always good for a burger and fries lunch or dinner.

Thing to note: bring a sweater/jacket to all resturaunts. We went in July and every place was freezing!

I think Alexander's has a couple of steaks on their early bird menu.

I'm not an expert of HHI by all means but I do focus a lot of our vacations around food. Here is what we have liked that we have tried so far at HHI.

Signe's for breakfast. Took my mother and she loved it too. Nothing real fancy but the food was great and we got some treats (since it is a bakery as well) to take back for snacks.

Santa Fe: We just tried this one the last time when we stopped by for one night on our way back from WDW. LOVED this place, but not a real casual place. I don't think it matters all that much though. We were not dressed up and looked pretty much rough b/k of our tiredness from the World. Did feel a tad out of place though. Pricey but DD and I shared so it ended up not too bad. What we ordered were large portions. I would imagine they have a steak there but it will be leaning toward Southwestern type since that is what this restaurant is.

San Miguels for Mex. is OK but it doesn't compare to what we had at Santa Fe.(which is close to the Palmetto Dunes entrance....not far from resort at all)

Giuseppies...not sure on the spelling but this is our favorite pizza place. Very close to the resort... in strip area where Piggly Wiggly is.

We have not tried Alexander's yet, but have heard great things about it. Pretty upscale from my understanding though.

We also want to try Hudson's but just don't know where it is.

Scott's was pretty good which is right at the resort.

For a quick breakfast, we walked over to Parrot Cove , across the bridge and it was good.

Were not all that impressed with Oyster Factory but maybe it was just what we got that one night.

HOpe this helps. Have a great trip!

Sea Shack is great seafood! UConnJack is absolutely right: the place looks like a real dive! But, their food is excellent and reasonably price for seafood. It is about 3 miles from Disney in a different plantation. Make sure you have good directions; it is well hidden and there are few signs! After the dinner, we like to go to Coligny Plaza (http://www.colignyplaza.com/) for shopping, entertainment and great ice cream. It is about .5 miles from Sea Shack.

Salty Dog is also a must for lunch/brunch. It is in the South Beach area of Harbour Town, so you have to pay the road toll. Great views of working fishing boats and the cove. We also take home a shirt or two (http://www.saltydog.com/). I think the dog is probably related to Shadow somehow!!

Also agree entirely with: "Giuseppies...not sure on the spelling but this is our favorite pizza place. Very close to the resort." You can walk/bike there; about .75 miles east of the resort.

Can someone let me know the names of restaurants that are closest to the Disney resort......which ones can you walk to?

The ones you can walk to are Scott's, Kingfisher, San Miguels, the Italy one that we did not care for (sorry, don't know the name), Parrot Cove , there is another new one that I am not sure of the name and I may be leaving out something.

Also, in my earlier post I left out Salty Dog's... we love going here and have to go each time just for the atmosphere. We chose to eat at the larger, inside one on the other side where the shops more are. I think it may have been Salty Dog Shipwrecked or something like that. This is just a great place to go to walk around , do a little shopping, etc. And there are usually some parrots outside on a tree at one of the areas to look at. Keep in mind when going here, you will need to pay the $5 gate fee for Sea Pines but if you usually get a coupon for one of the shops to get that back. Of course I realized this AFTER the fact the last time we were there.
