Wasn't sure where to post this. Can I pack a suitcase full of non-perishable food to take to Disney? Is it allowed for checked luggage?

Yes, just did it on last trip. Had pudding, tuna, tuna helper, crackers, pasta side dishes, rice in packages, etc.

So I can fill up a suitcase with just food and no issues? Are there certain things I shouldn't pack...(besides perishable foods of course)? Bottles of water? Juice? Peanut butter?

Anyting that can break open and damage your luggage as well as your fellow passengers.

Be careful about weight. If you're putting some boxes of crackers and cereal then that'll help offset the canned goods which are heavy. You just don't want to end up over the weight limit of your airline and have to pay the overweight fee. That kind of defeats the purpose of packing the food in the first place.

Liquids are a whole other issue. The problem with liquids is that if any of the containers leak, the liquid doesn't only mess up everything in your own bag (which could ruin your vacation), it also messes up many other people's stuff which will then ruin their vacations as well. IF (big if) you feel a need to pack liquids, please double bag them in ziplocs and maybe also inside plastic storage containers with plenty of padding around them. I would urge you not to pack them at all, but if you do decide to anyway, please do everything in your power to take all the extra precautions to ensure that they don't burst and ruin many other people's luggage.

It's a lot easier and not that more expensive to order from a delivery service such as www.gardengrocer.com. They have a $12 delivery fee but it's well worth it. They will deliver directly to your room (during a 2 hour time frame that you give them) or they will leave your order with bell services and they will bring it to your room.
You can also order items that need refrigeration. Just the 2 cases of water I ordered more than paid for my total order (about $120.) when you consider I would have paid $2.50 or $3.00 a bottle at WDW.
I've been using them for about 5 years and they are great.

I did look into Garden Grocer as well as other delivery services but it didn't make too much sense to pay twice the cost of what it would cost me here for water as well as the $12 delivery charge. (plus I'm not sure if I would like the water they have available...I've had some bottled water in the past that I thought tasted awful!!!) I only plan on bringing a case which I can get for less than $4.
I suppose I could pack the water in ziplocs in a collapsible cooler? Has anyone done this?

If you pack any liquids, please follow the advice of the other poster who said to double bag them. They are very rough with the luggage and it doesn't take much to bust water bottles.

You can pack peanut butter, but it is so dense that the x-rays will not go through it, so it will almost certainly cause your bag to be searched.

$12 delivery charge vs. $15-$20 suitcase charge - garden grocer is still worth it if your airline charges per bag. a lot less for you to drag along, too. have a great trip!

You can pack water but it doesn't seem to make much sense. It is going to add a lot of weight. But that is your choice. Just be sure to pack it so that if there is an issue, others won't be impacted. For instance, when I pack something fluid, such as wine or alcohol, I wrap it in a towel first, then bubble wrap it, another towel and it goes into a large zip-loc bag. Then that goes into a yet larger zip-loc baggie. I would hate it if something burst open and ruined someone else's contents.
As far as other food stuffs go...pretty much everything is going to be fine in your checked bag. Just be careful...having peanut butter almost assures that you will have your bags opened and checked!! Happens every time I pack peanut butter.

I'm flying Southwest so luckily there will be no luggage charge.:thumbsup2

IMHO the water would be WAY too heavy to pack and check and would not worth the trouble in order to save $3 overall.:confused3 You are still saving alot over buying it from Disney if you order it... You can get cases of water shipped directly from Costco for approx. $7 each including tax & shipping. Allow 2 days shipping & just have them shipped to your resort address - use the name on the res. & your arrival date when you complete the order. WORKS LIKE A CHARM!! :thumbsup2 We just used Garden Grocer in August & it really worked out just fine. Yes, the prices were a tad more than at home but a LOT less than on site. I only pack / bring light items like coffee, crackers, bagels, oatmeal & cereal.:thumbsup2

I was planning on using COSTCO but apparently they no longer deliver water to Hotels.:confused3

There will if any of your bags weighs more than 50 lbs. Water is very heavy and those plastic bottles of water add up quickly.

1 gallon of water (128 ounces, about six 20 oz bottles) weighs 8.34 lbs. So 36 bottles would be close to 50 pounds all by itself. That doesn't include the weight of the packaging or the suitcase itself.

How do they know where it's going? You put in the address & your name...:confused3 When did this start? I just did it in May...granted that was 3 months ago...but still. Does the computer reject the address? BTW, it is not delivered...it is shipped via UPS. It's like mail.

It's only a case of 24/16.9oz bottles...which only weighs about 25 pounds so I won't have to worry about going over the weight limit.

I guess it's something that just started about a week or so ago. I've read it on many threads. People have placed orders only to find out their orders are being canceled.:confused3

I guess my question should have been posed a little differently. What I really wanted to know was if one is allowed to pack food and water in checked luggage...not whether or not it made sense to do so. What works for someone may not work for another. Spending only about .12 cents per bottle outweighs the minor annoyance of having an extra piece of luggage (which can be used for souvenirs on the way home!:)) I do appreciate everyone's input and opinions though...and If I do decide to bring water I will be packing it properly to prevent it from possibly ruining anyone's things!
My plan is to pack it in ziplocs...in a collapsible cooler! I refuse to pay $20 for a case of water and If I'm unable to bring the water then my other option is drinking from the tap and bringing plenty of flavor packets!:cutie:

Yes your allowed - for just the facts check here:

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm

When you post a question on a "discussion" board you will get discussion ` this includes lots of ideas and suggestions!

At the risk of piling on Please be sure the water your may pack isn't going to leak. Your case may be full of food and can be replaced but mine may have pictures, clothing, purchases and other items that water can damage.

I completely understand what one is suppose to "do" on a discussion board and I'm always open to new suggestions and ideas.
What I don't "get" is the snarkiness of some individuals and I feel that it is very unnecessary.
