We are shipping an order of bottled water/juices to WDW from NetGrocer. But they are all out of our favorite peanut butter/cracker snacks!! So we want to pack them, unopened, in our checked baggage. Will there be any problem with this??

Nope.

Umm, ok I thought we are supposed to put food in carry on luggage and not in checked bags??

Not that I think some snack crackers are a big deal, but just wanted to clarify. TIA!

TSA's Pack Smart Tips has the recommendation that you "avoid packing food and drink items in checked baggage". Some food items may increase the chance of a search after the bags are sent through screening equipment.

Anyone know how peanut butter and crackers affects the equipment readings? I'd pack them in checked luggage if the luggage has hard sides which will protect the crackers.

Food is not forbidden in checked luggage. There are things that set the scanners off, but, they just check it and send it on it's way. http://www.tsa.gov/public/display?theme=12

Absolutely nothing about food listed.

I pack food both to and from Disney. On the way back I have had frozen food, and various other things. Yes, they checked the bag, big deal, they put a little notice that they had checked it.
On the way down I generally bring Dee's cereal, salt and pepper and sometimes coffee. I have yet to have a problem. I have nothing to hide and if they want to search my food, whichi is wrapped, then fine. I refuse to be a pack mule on vacation and will not carry this stuff on the plane. Until it is forbidden, then I will pack it in the checked luggage.

In answer to your question, I doubt Peanut butter and crackers will cause a security breach. And I am sure your stuff will be fine, we use soft sided luggage and nothing ever happens to the crackers we bring home. Just pack them in among stuff.

Ok thanks for the clarification. I had lots of food in our carry on luggage last month, it was funny! I guess my assumption was that they wanted people to have it in their carry on instead of their checked for some reason.

Thanks again!

LOL, of course they do, less work for them. :)

 Are you going to pack the food in checked luggage if it becomes forbidden? My recommendation was to put the food in checked luggage (luggage that is checked at the counter and put onboard the a/c by ground service personnel).

If it becomes forbidden then I will stop packing food in my checked luggage. Yep, I know what your recommendation was and I believe I addressed it. I also said I did not think your peanut butter etc. would be a problem. I do know the difference between checked and carry on. :)

My bad:o

Your use of "until" and "then" had me confused.

I can understand the confusion, the "then" should not have been in that sentence at all. Sorry about that. :)

Our checked bags were searched last time we flew. We were bringing home chocolate - love those crispy gems- and they searched our bags. As near as I can tell, the reason is that the chocolate is very dense on the x rays so they need to make sure what it is. I'm all for safety, check away!!

Im sure the baggage handlers were quite surprised on my last trip back from KS. My suit case had no less than 12 boxes of a tuna helper flavor that they dont carry around here. (My parents buy lots when its on sale, and i empty out thier cabinets of it when i visit!)

No choclate in the bag this time, but i did also pack some rice crispy treats
