Food Budget - Splitting Meals?

just FYI: like a PP said, those nuggets kids meals at CS is miserably small. I wasn't expecting that and ordered that as part of a 3 meal split....and was disgusted with the portion size. never again.

Np ordering kid's meals from CS, I never tried with TS but I doubt they would.

The mac n cheese is nicely sized on the kid's meals. Also, you can generally substitute fries for the fruit and soda for the juice depending on if you are in the mood to eat healthy or not.

The sandwiches at the bakeries and Earl of Sandwich at DTD are your best bang for the buck.
Here is my sandwich from Main Street Bakery at MK (sorry, cell phone pic)

I am going to Earl tomorrow, I will try and remember to get a pic this time, LOL

And the best cupcake Ive ever had!

I think after reading some of the responses, you may have to see how you are when you get here. My family and I are the complete opposite of the poster up above. We have a hard time eating anything. This annoys me because everything looks so good! Even my 5 year old won't eat. We often feel too nauseated. Despite drinking a ton of water...I think we all just get dehydrated. I've always wondered how everyone eats on the meal plans, lol. We moved here in the summer so I am curious to see if that stays the same in the winter.

ETA: Here is a pic of the half chicken meal at Sunshine Seasons. It usually comes with black beans too but I had them leave it off.

The pasta at Port Orleans, where you tell them what ingredients to put in, is more than enough for two.

One thing to remember is that even if it's not on the menu, you can order sandwiches without fries and they will be cheaper. So even if you don't split an entree, you could order one sandwich with fries and one without, and share the fries. DH and I do this and it's still plenty of fries.

Also remember that it takes your brain a few minutes to catch up with your stomach. So if you split an entree and you think you are still hungry, wait 15 minutes and see if you really are. Another benefit to eating smaller meals is that you have more room for ice cream later!

I find that spliting CS meals not to be feasable. Walking around all day in all that freash air makes me more hungry than usual, so I can finish a CS meal 9 times out of 10 no problem. Sure you get plenty of food but you may want to eat most of it!

Having younger kids split a meal? no problem. Teens and adults I think it's not quite enough food for all but the lightest of eaters. YMMV!

I always feel like such a glutton when I read these threads. While we have split meals before, unless you on adding snacks, I usually finish my own meals!

Portion sizes have really been scaled back at Disney, so no, I don't find splitting a meal to be feasible.

I find that I can split a meal with one of my kids, (who isn't a big eater), but my DH needs his own meal. I am happy because that is the only way I ever get dessert- which I usually split with one of my kids too.:thumbsup2

DD7 and I usually split a meal. Usually fills us up well but gives us a good reason for a Mickey bar later in the day! :woohoo:

Depends on the appetite.

My dh and I have never been able to split a meal and be satisfied. We tried splitting it and usually what happened was that maybe an hour after the meal we were buying snacks and usually the snacks were junk.

We found we save more money by just getting every one a satifying meal and skipping snacks.

It might have worked if we had small children but 2 adults. not us.

I could not split with my hubby but I have shared many times with my sister or my mom when we have travelled with them. One I remember was the Chicken Caesar Salad at Pecos Pills, it was huge. Then there is enough room left over for ice cream or popcorn.

Also some of the sandwiches are HUGE, check out all the food pics and you will get an idea.

Just came back from Disney World yesterday and my husband and I only ate at the counter service restaurants since we were on a tight budget. (Although we did grab a drink at the Sci-Fi Dine-In to check it out) We usually eat pretty light, but during the trip we only shared fries or desserts. We'd each order our own sandwich because after doing all that walking, we were really hungry.

If you go to Epcot, there are really good sandwiches in France that are filling. The place is called Boulangerie and for a soft drink, two sandwiches and a cheese plate it costs a little over $16. The desserts there are really tasty and around $3-$5.

We also like to split meals. The last 2 trips we had the qs plan both times. It was great splitting cs meals especially in Epcot so we could try different types of food but not burn up our credits. With three of us we split at quite a few places through out the world and found ourselves full enough but not stuffed. Sure we would all have our own meals once a day but found that we always ended up taking something back to the room.
Pucks has huge sammies as does the bakery at Boardwalk. Staring rolls has huge sammies too.
Pucks roasted chicken dinner is really big too.
