Food at Liberty Tree Tavern

Previously when I was planning for WDW, I was never interested in LTT, as it seemed that the food there was nothing different from what you might make at home. This year I am hoping to get PS for it before MNSSHP. I have read many posts about the restaurant, and almost all of them were favorable, seems this is a favorite WDW restaurant for many. So I am just wondering, what is it that makes it so special? I read one recent post that said the food tasted like the stuff you buy frozen and heat in the microwave! I'm getting a little worried. Should I try for PS somewhere else, instead?

No, no no...the food is good! Turkey, ham and beef come on a platter...as much as you want. I'm not much of a ham person, but the turkey was very, very good and I had a lot of it! The side dishes were good, too. And the day we went was very hot, so the unlimited pink lemonade was a very big hit. Our group ranged in age from 90 to 4 ... and everyone was pleased with the food!!
Beyond that, the atmosphere is wonderful. You feel like you're stepping back in time into a colonial restaurant....as if Martha Washington was preparing dinner for you! You give your name as you walk in...and when your table is ready, they announce:
"Hear ye....hear ye...now seating the Smith Family of Ohio"...or whatever your name/home state is.
It's just the classic Disney experience coupled with very satisfying food....so that combo makes it a not miss for us...number one on our list!

The food here is great! They usually have characters wandering around when dinner is served, so you usually are visited by all of them at least once. The food is served family style, so it's all-you-can-eat. I highly suggest this restaurant, it's one of the best!

Here's a tip--lunch is better than dinner. DInner is OK, but nothing special. Lunch on the other hand is very tasty.

And the atmosphere is very interesting and nice.

Make your PS for the first seating for dinner! We got there about 15 mins before 5 I think. Our PS were at 5. Anyway, they do this neat thing, where one family gets to call everyone to dinner, so to speak. We all got to walk up on the balcony that over looks the waiting area, ring the dinner bell, and yell out a little speal. It was cute, the kids loved it and we had a really special Disney Moment. You are not guarenteed to get picked, but your chances are better since you are there for the first seating. Besides, the food is GREAT and the Charcters are awesome!

The food is palatable and tasty, nothing gourmet. The mac and cheese is Stouffer's which you do buy frozen and heat up. I think the mashed were instant for some reason. DH always comments on this, it doesn't really matter to me. DS loves Stouffer's so he is in heaven when we eat there.

Its "comfort" food, and we found it to be very "yummy". Service was very good, and the atmosphere was extremely pleasant.

I like the food here. They start you off with a salad followed by a family style dinner which includes ham, turkey, and beef with stuffing. You also get mashed potatoes, gravy, mixed vegetables and mac and cheese. Followed by ice cream OR boston cream pie for desert.

This is my favorite character dinner. First of all since the dinner is served family style you don't have to worry about timing yourself at the buffet so that you don't miss the characters that come to your table. The restaurant is small enough that the characters seem to come around to your table at least twice. I have been to many character dinners where you have to wait and wait and wait to see all of the characters, but at Liberty Tree, we never had to wait for the characters.

Thanks for the replies. I think we will plan on doing this, if we can get PS at the right time. One question, ScottNJ mentioned dinner is followed by ice cream or Boston Cream pie. Is this included in the price of the dinner? I thought I read on the menu that it is an additional charge for desserts? Anyway, thanks again!

Dinner is good...just like a homemade thanksgiving dinner.

Lunch is outstanding!

We found dinner at LTT to be just OK. The food was good but certainly not wonderful. The characters were fun and I like the theme.

The MK does not really have any really great sit down places so I think LTT is a good choice to make.

MrsMud, now that you mention it, on all previous visits, we never received dessert. I just figured this was something new that was added but now that I think about it, we were one of the last to be seated on that day and maybe the waiter new that he had some extra pie in the back that they had to get rid of. Just a thought

OK, I'm going to be the dissenting vote here. I was all fired up to eat at LTT during my last trip in Nov - 2001. I seem to have bad luck with the last meal of my trips to The World.

The decor is great. I will give it that. The announcing the familys is fun and I was really looking forward to it. EXCEPT - it is not all the time. It depends on who is seating people and how they are feeling. We did NOT get announced and neither did other people. It seemed to me that they were biased towards announcing families over couples or singles. So now I am annoyed but still wanting to have a good lunch.

I ordered the shrimp and cheddar cheese grits. I LOVE grits. I ADORE grits. The food was soooooo bad I wanted to cry. First off: the venue is sponsored by Stoffers and many of the dishes are Stoffers meals (like the Mac & Cheese). Now if you dig Stoffers - great! I think Stoffers is fine but I'm NOT paying for re-heated, glorified TV dinners!

The grits were SOOOO salty that I wanted the chef killed with his own sodium. It was inedible. I called the manager over and made him taste the food (from a portion that I had not eaten). He agreed. The staff was very quick to try and remedy the problem but the chef , quite frankly, sucked. All the food was over-salted to one digree or another and I am NOT sensitive to salt.

My roommate declared her meatloaf, pretty good but she could make much better at home. The special orange smoothie drinks in the commemorative glass were the best part of the meal.

I have told all my friends traveling to MK to avoid this place like the plague. Its not as bad as Nine Dragons in China @ Epcot (my arch nemisis) but it aint good.

My cynical 2 cents. I REALLY hope your experience was better than mine.

Oh, Boy! Just when I thought I had decided to go! Thank you all for relaying your experiences, good and bad. I think I might look into the Crystal Palace instead? Don't mean to start a new dabate here (LOL). We NEED someplace in MK, preferably a character dinner, as it will be our only night at Disney and I want to maximize the experience for my girls. I don't think there are any others in the park? OH, well. I guess I have lots of time to decide

To be fair, I had lunch and have not had the dinner. I hear good things about the turkey but I'm at resort restaurants at night and have never done this.

This year I'm going to do dinner at Cindys. (OMYGOD, I just re-read your first post - I'll be there for MNSSHP too this year. I'll be in the blue Princess Aurora dress the blows the parks stuff out of the water - end not so modest plug)

ANYWAY - If its characters you want and you have two girls, try it. For most little ones, its the experience of seeing Minnie and Mickey and not the food that is important.

I have to second the bad food at Liberty. I was really
looking forward to it because I love comfort food but
I thought the food was not good. The atmosphere
was good and my DD loved seeing mini mouse but
the food was much better at Crystal Palace. Its really
pretty there too! We did eat dinner at Liberty and
maybe you would have better luck at lunch.

We love to eat at LTT. I agree that its appeal is that the food is comfort food. Just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and is like eating Thanksgiving dinner.

Would you suggest making a PS for lunch or just walk in?
