My younger son has severe peanut/tree nut/shellfish allergies. I've searched through the threads here at the DIS but most are 2+ years old that I found.

I'm just wondering if anyone has more recent experience dining there with food allergies. We are interested in both table service and counter service - and we are staying at the Hard Rock. Information on desserts (this seems to be the hardest to find) is especially appreciated! :goodvibes

I would like more information on this as well. My 15 yr. old daughter has the same allergies. We have never had a problem at Disney but this is our first time to visit Universal. The older posts suggest that Universal is not allergy friendly. I hope in recent years that they have become more informed. I have spoken to Bubba Gump's and they said it will be okay to bring her food with us. When I called dining they just state to talk with the individual counter service or restaurant.

I would like more info on Mythos, Margaritaville, NBA, NASCAR, International, Comic Strip, Mels Diner, Bula's and of course Three Broomsticks. I try to narrow down our choices by items served and stick to that plan. I find it less confusing than just randomly walking up to the counter service and hoping for the best.

Anyone with food allergies dine here in the past year or so? Any good tips?

:bumping:

I am interested in any recent experiences too. Planning a trip to US/IOA with DD10 who is terribly allergic to peanut/tree-nuts. I need to have a plan on locations and menu items to plan on. Of course we'd love to go to Three Broomsticks too, but I'm hearing about cross contamination issues with butterbeer (the whipped cream, specifically).

Does anyone have recent experience there?

:goodvibes THANKS!:goodvibes

Your best bet is to call Guest Services:

E-mailing them is possible, but you'll get faster info from calling.

My wife has allergies to all nuts and shellfish.

We ate at Mythos without a problem. We have the server ask the chef to come out and speak to us about options.

Counter service usually have a book with all the ingredients so ask for that. Cross contamination is the other issues.

We understand your concerns because it is a serious situation. Disney does a great job with food allergies.

We went this sumer(August 2010) with my 9 year old brother who has anaphylaxis allergies to dairy, eggs and all nuts. Dining with him isnt always easy especially, in regards to cross contamination because the littlest bit of dairy can result in use of the epi-pen and rushing to the hospital.

Disney is always amazing with allergy information, my mother and I can call them months in advance and they can guarantee what he can eat and where we can find it, there has never been a problem. Though when we tried to call universal for allergy information we were told "we dont do that here". We called multiple times and were never put in contact with chefs from the park. We read on a few boards that Margaritaville was helpful and they were amazing! We contacted them a month in advance and talked to the chef who told us he would make sure to be there the night we came in, he had a few options for my brother and there was no need to worry amongst the rest of the family. They even had tofutti he could eat for dessert! They even arranged to make him a burger and fries that we picked up to go to bring to the park the next day. They are more than accommodating and a great choice for those worried with allergies.

There was only two experience in the park(in the counter service restaurant in jurassic park, I cant recall the name and the three broomsticks) in jurassic park there was a chef on site that could guarantee he could eat the chicken and the fries were fine. Every where else we were told they couldnt make promises or "Are you sure he cant eat garlic butter mashed potatoes?". When we went to the Three broomsticks the greeter at the door took out a spreadsheet with all allergies listed and what someone who held that allergy could eat.

Universal is hard to concur with allergies, though with nut/tree nut and shellfish allergies it may be a tad bit easier than dairy or gluten, but asking for a chef and keeping some snacks from home handy are always your best bet.

I hope this helps everyone a little.

Concerning the spreadsheet with listed allergies----is it the type with "soy" "dairy" "peanuts" in one direction with the food items in the other? My dd16 has a soy allergy but can have soybean oil and soy lecithin, which trigger the "check off" on some of those spreadsheets. We can't eat at restaurants that only give that form of allergy information. She desperately wants to eat at Three Broomsticks in August.

Thanks so much for all the recent replies. We are looking forward to a trip to IOA but it was looking like a logistical nightmare. It appears that it may take some more advance planning than WDW, but it is possible.

If anyone else has had recent experiences, I would love to hear them too.

When we went in August it was just the spreadsheet but the greeter was very friendly! Hopefully you will encounter someone like him and they will be willing to accommodate and help you out. Worst case scenario I know they do the fruit breakfast and nothing comes in contact with the fruit its just sliced and served.

My son also has peanut and nut allergies and we are planning a one day trip in march. I am not feeling that confident about the food situation and am thinking that we will survive on goldfish crackers and bottled water :)
I am wondering about the Butterbeer though, someone mentioned crosscontamination earlier and I was wondering if they were refering to dairy or something else. My son would love to enjoy one and I have heard they are great!

The cross contamination was gluten.
