Focus Group question??

I was invited to join a focus group through one of the survey sites. Has anyone done one of these? What are they like? It's supposed to be 90min. online.

I have... it all depends on the type of group it is. Some they have you watch short clips from commercials and have you tell them what you think of it. Others are series of questions then they might want to know why you chose that answer. The last time I did one, they had a "group" of us on at the same time, they asked a question and one by one you gave an answer from a list. It wasn't bad and the company I did it for sent the check for doing it within a couple of weeks.

Yes, I have. One was for a new type of credit card...they wanted to see if the idea was attractive my demographic. The other tested the idea of having bridal and/or gift registries at "regular" stores like KMart and (now defunct) Hechinger. This was 1990. I don't think the credit card idea ever got to market. Needless to say, the gift registries went gang busters.

In both my experiences they paid me cash on the spot at the end of the meeting.

You might be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement.

Since it's online you'll have to wait for your money in the mail. My online experiences were great.

Yes, I have. It was easy and the time went by pretty quickly. Here's a tip--don't wait until the last minute to log in. Log in as soon as you can. They usually book more people then there's room for (because they figure some won't show up) and if you show up late, you may get bumped. The last time I had one of those offers my kid needed me and I couldn't log in until 10 minutes before time and I was already bumped. They paid me $5 for showing up, but I was disappointed. How much are they paying you for 90 minutes? I've found that the online groups don't pay nearly as well as the in-person ones, but then again it's less time, hassle, gas costs, etc.

I wouldn't mind taking part in some online focus groups. Who did you sign up thru?

I have done market research studies with Delve, but I have had to go to their location in my town each time. What a nice idea to complete these online and make a little at the same time.
