The question has been raised about flying with prescription medications. My husband and I were going to put ours in those plastic daily/weekly dose containers. Can we do this or do all prescription medications have to be in their original containers?

Thanks for any help!

Deb

They need to be in the original labeled containers. If you remove them, and you get searched by security, there is a HIGH probability that your meds will be confiscated as security can't be certain what they are. I wouldn't want to have that problem.

Whenever I fly, I put the number of pills I will need for the trip (plus a couple extra) in the labeled bottles and take those with me. The rest I put in plastic bags and leave them at home. That way, I if I should lose the bottle (or forget to pack it when going home), at least I have some "backups" at home.

I would definitely leave medications in the labeled bottles.

Also, if you get your meds in huge bottles, you can go to your local pharmacy, explain your situation, and they're usually pretty good about labeling a smaller bottle for you to take just the amount you need in.

This is a good day care/school tip, too. I ask the pharmacist split any prescription for DD into 2 bottles - 1 with the right number of doses for home, the other with the right number for school. They are very nice about it.

Another good reason to take the prescription bottle is so that, heaven forbid, if you drop half of them down the sink and need more, you can show the ship's or a local doctor the bottle and s/he will be able to help you get more. I speak from experience - LOL. :D

DH TAKES ALOT OF PILLS A DAY AND HE FINDS IT EASIER TO USE THE DAILY PILL BOXES TOO. WHAT HE DID WAS PUT WHAT HE WOULD NEED THE DAY WE FLY THERE AND LEAVES THE REST IN THE ORIGINAL BOTTLES WHICH WE HAVE WITH US IN THE CARRY-ON. ONCE WE ARE THERE AND ON THE SHIP, HE WILL DO THE REST OF THE PILL CONTAINERS FOR THE REST OF THE CRUISE. HE HAS THE 7 DAY PILL CONTAINERS. WE DIDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH DOING IT THAT WAY AT ALL.;)
