Can anyone tell when you take a portable dvd player on a plane, do you have to open it up and turn it on going through security? Or do you just pack it in a carryon and no one questions it? I'm talking about the kind for kids, not a laptop pc. Thanks!! :sunny:

We didn't on our trip from St. Louis to LA. They simply asked what it was, and then put it through the xray machine. This was a dual screen model in a carrying case. I didn't even open it.

You do NOT have to open it. Only laptops have to be opened for screening.

After a half dozen flights with our portable DVD player, we've always been allowed to leave the DVD player in its bag and just send it through x-ray -- even though the unit and its screen are almost as large as a small laptop computer. At first we asked. Then we stopped bothering.

In comparison, video cameras are treated like laptops. Security at Chicago-O'Hare and elsewhere wants video cameras unpacked and in their own bin through xray.

Took a portable DVD player from BWI to MCO and back a few weeks ago and didn't have to take it out either time.

we had to take it out in Indy but we didn't at MCO. I think it really depends on where you are.

I just flew to GA two weeks ago and brought our DVD player. We didn't have to open it since we had a case for it. We just put it in a tray.

We've never had to take ours out of the case. Laptops have to be taken out of teh case and placed in the bin on the conveyor, but in the probably close to 100 flights I've taken with one, I've only once been asked to turn it on.

I've gone through everytime with the player at the bottom of my carry-on and there's never been any questions or any further review of my bag.

Now, try going through with some AA batteries in a baggy. I just about got strip searched :rotfl: (apparently on the 'state of the art' x-ray machine they look like bullets :earseek: ).
