I have read that everybody will need government photo ID's. How do get ID's for the children?

Check with your local government or DMV, you can get ID's issued for your family, or, use passports.
Check with your specific airline to see what age they need a picture ID.

is this something new? i haven't heard about this. i'm travelling next month with my little ones and was just planning to take copies of birth certs. i'm going on swa--gail do you happen to know if i will need photo ids with them? thanks

fyi
i just checked swa web site. for youth (12 and up) photo ids were recommended. i called swa about my 3 and 4 year olds and she said a copy of birth cert was plenty.

when we flew in nov, no one ever looked at the kids' passports i brought with me. even when i handed it to them, they would give them back without even looking at them.

we flew in august and at that time id's were only required age 18 and up...have things changed since then because of the new heightened security? and would school id's with pics on them be enough for my younger sister?

A school ID with the accompanying birth certificate will be more than enough. Have a great trip :)
