Flying to HHI-any experiences flying into these airports?

In flying to HHI, has anyone flown to either Charleston, SC or Jacksonville, FLA? We've always used FF miles to Savannah, but DH got promoted-good news is he's home more, bad news is we don't have enough FF miles. And the flights for us are around $500 apiece! We've got so few airlines that come within 100 miles of us, I'm trying to broaden our choices of airports there at least. Talk about sticker shock! Any ideas?

Airfare from Chicago to SAV is quiet high, esp for a family of 5.... So this trip we have opted to fly into Jacksonville and drive......

The above link covers road construction all over 95... doesnt seem to bad for the trip.

Our plane lands around 1pm, so we are thinking about checking out the zoo for a couple of hours to tired out the kids in hopes that they will nap for the 3 hour drive to HHI...

We've done it (flying into JAX). Drive is very quick, didn't even seem like 3 hours. Had no problems at all. Good luck.

Bummer about the FF miles. For that reason, I'm always when dh has to travel.

On to your question: if the price is the same, Charleston is a lot closer to HH than Jacksonville; a two hour drive from the airport (take the 526 to the 17 to the 95 to the 278, or stay on the 17, drive through Beaufort and cut over to the 278). Plus, schedule premitting, you could add in an extra day for sightseeing in Charleston.
