I hate flying when it rains - possible T-storms on 4/1 per weather channel - East Coast - NY to FL

Any suggestions on my fears ?

How do pilots (SWA) handle rain storms ?

Mid-Atlantic states are supposed to have rain - possible T-storms on 4/1.
NY is partly cloudy in the AM and FL is sunny all day on 4/1.

Please help - any pilots out there ?

It'll be OK. Planes fly in the rain all of the time. If it's a bad storm, maybe there will be a delay until the weather passes.

Here is a link

http://www.takingflight.us/

that has some good information about how planes fly in different circumstances. It's an interesting site!

Usually once they get above the weather it is OK. It can be bumpy on takeoff and landing.

i do not like to fly. well me and dh just got back from a week in texas to visit family , i actually had to take medicine. i only took 1/2 tablet of lorazpan ,it worked great . and also coming home , i actually took 1/2 when i got up and then the other 1/2 just before the plane takes off. it was wonderful, now i am excited about flying again. i know some people dont like the medicines, but i have anxiety disorders so i had to , or i wouldnt get to see my daughter and grandson..................have a good trip.

I hope this eases your fears but... planes actually regularly get struck by lightning during storms in the air. It is completely fine! The planes are designed to handle it and you won't even experience turbulence if anything that extrodinary were to happen. Don't worry about the rain, if it is at all dangerous conditions, they'll postpone your flight! So with that knowledge in mind, I hope it helps you feel safer and secure onboard! :thumbsup2

once you're in the air, you're most likely fine. A lot of time, they fly above the rain clouds. The only times you may feel something is during takoff/landing!

Nothing to worry about! I'm sure your pilots have travelled through weather 100s of times before.

With thunderstorms you sometimes will get ground holds and delays from time to time until the weather passes if the weather is very close to you departure or arrival airport. You may want to make sure you bring along a book or something to pass that time should this be the case and perhaps a copy of Southwest's schedule of flights to MCO from your home airport in case of a cancellation (always a good idea no matter the weather).

Hope that helps!
