Flying Standby

I purchased our airline tickets through Hotwire.com and got a really great deal ($136 roundtrip/nonstop). I'm more than satisfied with the price and the nonstop flights, but, just as was expected, the times could be better.

Our AA flight home (from MCO to DFW) on Mon, 10/14 (Columbus Day) is at 6:30AM. American offers several nonstop flights to/from DFW/MCO each day. What are the procedures for flying standby, and is it wise in my case, given that it's a holiday and all?

If it were me, I wouldn't do it on a Priceline or Hotwire ticket, especially if I wanted to take a flight that leaves after the time on my ticket. You might end up paying a lot more to get home. AA, in particular, has a reputation for making those who fly on Priceline/Hotwire tickets stick to their "deal". Check out www.biddingfor travel.com for details - Airlines FAQ #11. There's also some good info on a thread entitled "Standby Policies for Priceline Customers". You will find it in the "Member Annuncements" section. I know Hotwire is not exactly the same as Priceline. However, they are similar enough that I'm quite sure the airlines' policies re these tickets will be the same.

You might try calling AA to see what their official policy might be for flying standby, but read FAQ #11 before you do that.
