Flying--one adult and a child?

Okay, I just saw that Southwest dropped their rates and now I could fly for $326 for both of us.

Has anyone else flown with just one adult? My daughter is 9 and is no trouble at all--I'm just wondering about our luggage. Since we're going the first week of December, I'll have to pack for all kinds of weather.

We have driven both times before and I was able to pack everything (and more) than we could possible need. I would really have to pare things down in order to fit it into luggage that I could manage.

I think I would just use a towncar service and use Disney transportation from that. (I generally do that anyway).

Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Since your daughter is nine, I'd think there should be no problem at all. If you are very worried you could try using luggage on wheels. Your daughter should have no problem pulling a regular suitcase around and could be a big help.

I travelled with a three and five year old and was a bit nervous about the collecting bags thing. How could I watch them and get my luggage? I planned to let most people claim their luggage first and wait until the area became less crowded, or to keep my eye on the luggage belt and catch mine on the second or third pass. I had three pieces (with their carseats), so I was going to rent a cart. Anyway, in the end, I paid one of the guys that transports your luggage for you. (I don't know what their position is called -- you know, like hotel bellmen, but at the airport.) The girls sat on his cart and I pulled the two light bags and he took care of the heavy one from the belt. I was relieved to have that out of the way and everything else was smooth sailing. I should mention that my girls are not high maintenance children. I have no trouble walking around with them by the hand. We are just a bit pokey. They carried little backpacks with a few comfort items and a snack.

I have flown alone with 3 kids. Mine at the time were 18mos 3 and 5. I just brought lots of singles for tips. For the most part people were extremely helpful.

I wouldn't anticipate a problem with a 9yo.
