Flying on an expired ID

We have a family emergency situation -- not WDW related but this is the best place I know to turn to for input!

My brother has to fly out of Seattle Tuesday morning at 7:00 a.m. and unexpectedly has to take our 80-year-old mother home to Chicago with him. (Long story short, he thought he was going out to help her get social services assistance set up so she could stay in her Seattle apartment alone, but he realized yesterday she is so incapacitated that he can't leave her there -- he's bringing her home to live with him until he can get her into a facility near him to provide the care she needs).

Anyway -- he must leave Tues. a.m. to get back for work on Wed. a.m. Problem is that he discovered yesterday that her ONLY gov't issued ID has expired, and with the MLK Day holiday tomorrow he cannot get it renewed for her before the flight.

Do you think he has any chance of being able to get her through security? She will be in a wheelchair -- she's been apartment-bound for over a year. They have the same last name. She has a one-way ticket to Chicago -- she won't be leaving there.

Any input is appreciated.

She will probably be let through but will be subject to extra screening such as pat downs, wanding, luggage search.

Bring whatever ID she has (medicare card, birth certificate) and allow at least an extra hour.

She should be OK.

Thanks a million! He's going to bring her state-issued ID (which has expired) and every other scrap he can find, including utility bills, medicade card, etc. Nothing like having a difficult situation made more complicated! Thanks for your help (and I'll be sure to tell him to get to the airport an additional extra hour early).

Bring as many forms of ID as he can find, including SS Card, Checkbook, maybe a couple utility bills, any expired picure ID . Does she have an old passport?
Last October I inadvertently brought my expired license instead of my current one. They didn't seem interested in any of my credit cards. They asked if I had a passport, costco card or any other membership cards with a picture on it. They seemed most happy that I happened to have a check on me (I just carry a couple in my wallet in case I need them) Also, at one point, I was told that they can accept ID's that expired within the past year.

Just allow a little more time at the airport/

No problem for domestic air travel to travel with no ID. She will simply be subject to added screening if the security personnel decide to make an issue of it.

Again -- thanks so much for sharing experiences and info. Turns out the state-issued ID she has only *just* expired on her birthday in November. In the meantime, my brother has been able to find her birth certificate, expired passport, and all the other documents you folks have been kind enough to recommend.

Can't really thank all of you enough for responding; I always appreciate being a part of this community.
