:scared1: 70% of thunder boomers, lots of rain & wind I guess on 6/23 :scared1:

How do planes land ?

Jet Blue arriving around 11:30 am on 6/23. this Saturday.

I am a bit nervous about landing in a thunder boomer with the sky being lit up with lightening.

Suggestions to calm me ?

If there is a thunderstorm right over the airport, they may put the plane into a holding pattern until it passes. If they see a storm coming, they will sometimes hold planes at their origin.

If it's just raining, it's no big deal.

We just had this happen to use on 6/9 when we flew from Raleigh to Orlando. This was supposed to have been an 1hr 40min flight. We left Raleigh right on time and the captain actually said that we may arrive a little bit early.

About 30 mintues or so into the flight I think (I had just gotten my drink),the captain said to not be alarmed if we noticed him making a series of right hand turns. He said that Orlando was currently closed to do thuderstorms and he would have to circle around until he knew the airport would reopen. We appeared to be well away from the storms and not even close to the airport.

We ended up circling for another 30 minutes or so and he announced that the airport was back open.

As we got closer to the airport, you could tell we were in stormier weather. Apparently on the left side of the plane, people could see lightning outside of the window. Those of us on the right side of the plane were treated to a rainbow!

It was a little bumpier than usual on the desent, but it wasn't bad (and I get motion sickness easy).

I used the advise someone else gave me. Wath the flight attendants. If they look calm and at ease going about their business, then everything is fine.

Good luck and keeping my fingers crossed you have a good flight with no storms.

Agree with PPs that maybe a small delay to avoid heavy weather, but most of the time it will not do much to affect yo n the sky. We have flown to Orlando in summer weather bunches of times...safe and sound arrival every time.

Only oddity you might not guess: if there is lightning outside, baggage workers might be held inside for safety, which can delay your bages. We don't use Magical Express, so we are getting our own bags. On a couple fo T-storm days we've spent more tmime than we expected at baggage waiting for bags (and then got mega-wet bags. LOL.:laundy:)

On their wheels...usually :)

The thing to remember is JetBlue, and any other airline, isn't about to risk their multi-million investment in an aircraft to a thunderstorm. Pilots, ATC's and everyone else involved, will steer the plane around the thunderstorm until its safe to land. The cool thing about Florida thunderstorms, and you can see this when you're in the parks, is they're very well defined. Its pretty easy to see exactly where they are and where they're going.

Yep. We waited nearly two hour for our bags to arrive one time under these circumstances. It was a trip where we were flying in the night before a cruise and were staying offsite, so DME was not an option. This is one situation where having DME handle your bags is a huge advantage.
