Hi! I live in Kingston, Ontario and am 2 hours from the Syracuse Airport. I was wondering if anyone has flown to Orlando via another connection from Syracuse. Is 35 minutes enough time to make a connection? It's 3 hours in terrible traffic to drive to Toronto for a direct flight. Thanks!

Hi Kelly!

Welcome to the boards! I am just down the road from you, in Cornwall. I have never flown out out Syracuse, so I can't help you out with the question. I just wanted to say welcome

Welcome to the Dis!!

We flew out of Syracuse last fall. All flights out of Syracuse to Orlando involve connections.
We had about an hour between flights. Our flight was late arriving in Washington but we still caught our connection to Orlando no problem and our bags made it too. We flew United.
I think 35min. is just enough time as long as there are no delays.

Is your connection in Washington or Chicago or New York?

I live in Peterborough, & didn't even know where else to fly out of, I was considering Buffalo which I think is someting like 3 3/4 hours from here. Is Syracuse closer to Buffalo fo me? How big is that airport? and have you all found the prices worth it verses T.O.

MaMudduck,

It is probably about the same distance from Peterborough to Syracuse as Peterborough to Buffalo. To find out the exact time and distance for each you could do a mapquest search.

We flew out of Syracuse because it was cheaper even after paying a park n'fly rate. Air Canada out of Ottawa was too expensive for us. We are about 2.5-3hrs away from Syracuse.

Syracuse airport is small like the Ottawa airport. It is nowhere near the size of Pearson. The only thing about flying out of Syracuse is there are no direct flights to Orlando. Depending on where the connection is, you might end up spending too much time travelling and waiting. At least flying out of Buffalo, you can fly direct with Southwest.

I think any flight out of the U.S. will be cheaper than Toronto.

Thanks for all of the info everyone! I have looked at rates and flights on Travelocity. They gave me a wide variety of times so I can go through Atlanta, Washington, Pittsburg... I have flown from Syracuse airport to NYC and it is a great little airport. The rates from Toronto are just too high compared to US rates. Most of the Travelocity rates are around $230.00 US return which comes to around $360.00 CDN. Orlando.com also shows flights going from Syracuse which are comparable. Thanks again, everyone!!!!

Hi!!

I didn't see this post before sorry! I live in Kingston too!!

We flew out of Syracuse last summer. We had a great rate of 98.00 dollars round trip to Orlando. We only had 45 minutes to make our connection in Detroit. The flight went well but the connection time was tight!!

If you stay on the same airline all the way through you will be okay. If you're plane is running late you can ask the steward to call ahead and say they have "runners coming" to catch the flight. You should be fine though. We enjoyed flying out of Syracuse so much that I don't think we will ever fly out of Ottawa or Toronto again!:D

I have more info if you need it. There is a shuttle service from Kingston to the Syracuse airport.:D etc.etc.

Thanks very much, RuthAnne! I think I should book something with a bit more time in between flights. I am going with one other adult and 3 children so it could be a nightmare! We are going to go the night before and stay at the Best Western or Holiday Inn and leave our car there. It sounds like you got a great deal! What airline did you fly and how did you book it? I would appreciate any info! This is our first time to Disney. I am waiting until about May to book the flight ....the impending war threat. I have booked at Hawthorn Suites so I'm ok for accomodation which can be cancelled. Any way, it was great hearing from a fellow Kingstonian! ( I actually live a bit outside of the city):D

Hi Kelly,

We flew Northwest and I booked it online. I am a Northwest Worldperks member. They seem to have the best airmiles promotions! I only just joined them in July and I already have 17,000 airmiles!

In October this year ( around that time) the airlines changed the ticketing rules. If you miss your flight now they can charge you 100 dollars per ticket to issue a new ticket for another flight. Since then I have noticed all the airlines seem to be booking flights very, very close together. 45 min. between flights is alot more common.

Don't book a flight where you leave Syracuse on say American and switch to Delta or something!! If you stay on the same airline all the way through the gates will be in the same area of the airport so you will have time to get your next flight! Also, point out to the person at the counter when you check in that you only have 30 or min. between flights ask for a seat assignment as close to the front of the plane as possible. We just said that we were worried about making our connection and showed the agent our flight times. They offered to put us close to the front so we would be first off the plane.

Check for flights everyday online if you find a good deal, Book it! The sale seats don't last long. The deal I found was sold out in one hour.

You are going to love WDW!!!

You are lucky to live "just outside the city" LOL we live near Queen's! It's noisy!

Have fun!

Ruth

Thanks again, Ruth! I will check the Northwest website. Is that how you became a Northwest Worldperks member? I have never heard about it! That's great advice on staying with the same airline.

Canadian Kelly,

We stayed at the Best Western at the airport for $89USD in the fall for the park 'n fly rate.
It was very convenient leaving our car at the hotel for the week and using their shuttle service.

I signed up for Worldperks at the Syracuse airport when we checked in for our flight. They had a promotion going. We got 5000 bonus miles just for signing up and taking a flight between May and Oct. Our flight to Orlando counted! I took one more flight before the end of October. I got 1000 bonus miles just for signing up to get Worldperks e mail. You can sign up online for it I think.

You get bonus miles for booking online, printing your own ticket all kinds of things!!

Also, if you go to the Syracuse airport website sometimes they have a free coupon for one or two days free parking if you're parking for a week.

We took Anthony's door to door service to the airport and back though since I saved so much on the flight!
