So, as my thread title suggests, I'm going to be flying next month and could use some words of wisdom. :) The last time I flew was for a vacation back in 2000 or early 2001, and next month's trip is for a short business trip.

I know I can take a carry on bag (and have the size requirements for said bag), but the web sites say that I can also take another personal bag with me. I'm having trouble finding guidelines for the size of the second carry on bag. I was thinking about taking my baggallini backpack and was wondering if it would be too big to carry on with me. It looks like this:

And the measurements are roughly 9x12x4. Would this be an ok size? It has a bunch of zippered compartments as well - do you think that would be a problem?

Also, we're going to be going way north and it will be a lot colder there than it will be when we leave here. I have a big poofy warm jacket to take with me. Do I just carry it with me through security? Is it better to pass on the second carry on bag in light of the poofy jacket?

Sorry for all of the questions, but I have next to no experience with flying, especially since they added all the security precautions and such. I just want to make sure I get through ok without annoying all of the seasoned flyers. :thumbsup2

Any advice you'd like to share would be really appreciated!!!

I'll be correct if I'm wrong but I belive that your personal bag just has to be big enough to fit under the seat.:thumbsup2 So your bag will be just fine I happen to know from reading a lot of the forums that your bag is a very popular one with the Ladies for toting this through WDW!:cutie:

I think both the bagalini and the coat should be fine--just put both under the seat in front of you and not in the overhead bin. After the bin is "full" of bags you can stuff your coat in on top of them is you wish. You will need to take the coat off and place it through on the conveyor belt at security (you cannot "carry it through"--I realize that is probably not what you really meant, but I thought I would point it out just in case).

I have a question as well.

We might be flying to Disney in Feb, this might be a stupid question, I know since 911 they have frown apon liquids sp? So does that mean you can't take shampoos, perfumes??

Each passenger gets 1 clear quart sized ziploc worth of 3.4 oz bottles or less. This applies to your carry-ons only. Check out the TSA website above for more details. I would highly suggest to anyone who hasn't flown recently to check out the TSA site before they leave. It's better to be over-informed.

Thanks, I haven't flew in over 10 years.

We fly 2-3 times a year. I always take a full sized book bag(with two full size compartments and two smaller front pockets--just like a high school student would carry to school), a carry on, and a thick lap blanket on every flight we go on. The carry on goes in the overhead bin, the book bag goes under the seat in front of me and the blanket stays on me or in my lap. Occasionally, I will even have a coat with me. The coat stays on me or in my lap also unless I see that there is going to be room in the overhead bin. They have never said that I have too much stuff. Your baggalini is MUCH smaller than my book bag. You should be fine with it , your carry on and a coat.

Thank you all so much!! :) I already feel better about the whole thing. I'll be going up there with my boss, and the less I can manage to look like a total doofus, the better. :teeth:

I found out last month that I'd be going on this trip and I think I managed to read everything on the TSA website over the next couple of days. :lmao: Now that we have an idea which airlines we'll be using to go up there, I've been scouring those sites, too (and the sites for both airports!). Can you tell I tend to plan things to death when I'm doing something unfamiliar?

It's really helpful to get advice from real people who have experience flying! Any other tips or words of wisdom I should remember?
