We ate there this past Friday night and the food was definitely not worth the money!!! Our waiter was good but that was about it. I got the scallops and shrimp and they were way undercooked. Also it took at least 30 minutes to get our food. I do not recommend this place at all. Very disappointed.

So sorry you had a bad experience, FF was incredible our last time there.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I haven't been to Flying Fish in a couple of years -- but I really liked it back then.

Did you say anything to your waiter about the food not being cooked enough? Personally, my husband likes scallops far less cooked than I do (or even as scallop sushi.) I would have said something to the waiter or manager at the time.

Did you mention to the waiter that the food was undercooked?
I am just curious, was it 30 minutes to receive your salad from the time that you ordered or thirty minutes to receive the entree?

We went to FF last December and though the food was amazing the service was awful. We got our appetizers before our cocktails, half of which had to be redone because the waitress got them wrong. our entrees arrived and hour and 40 minutes after our being seated! We ended up speaking to the manager and she did give us a 20% discount on the bill.

We would go back fro the food, just would make sure we got a different server (all her tables were experiencing waits and problems).

I'm so sorry to hear this. I've had many fabulous meals here, the last one was in October when we sat at the bar facing the kitchen and watched the chefs prepare our food. I heartily agree that this is a very expensive restaurant to have an average experience at.

What a shame you had a negative experience with FF. We ate there this past April and had a lovely meal. The restaurant was also very accommodating to my DH who is a vegan. He raved about the meal he had.

The servers stop by within about 3 minutes of having your food delivered to see how things are. They stop by a second time a bit later. Our experience-the food was fantastic!

The servers are responsive. There isn't any good reason for suffering in silence....and then being unsatisfied with one's experience.

Flying Fish has always been one of our favorite restaurants over the years. We have dined there at least 20 times or more. We too were very disappointed on our last visit (May 2007). I guess the crux of the matter was the 3 (three) scallops for 36 dollars. My DW is a petite person (less than 110 lbs soaking wet) and even after an appetizer and salad she was still hungry after the 3 scallop main course. I spoke with the manager and the response I got was a shrug of the shoulders and “That’s what the chef servers everybody for that entre.” I countered with: “The menu should inform your patrons that there are only 3 scallops.” Again I got a shrug and “I will tell the chef.” That was our first night of a 17 day stay. My DW loves scallops and we found ourselves asking the waiter at every ensuing restaurant how many scallops were in the dish….I’m sure they thought we were crazy. ;)

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I'm planning on trying this place next trip. I'm hoping to do it on the deluxe dining. I only hope it wasn't as bad as your night OP.

A warning for anyone who gets the NY strip there. I ordered mine medium rare. What I did not know is that they blacken the outer part of the steak and when I mean blacken I mean charred to a crisp. It was burnt so badly the middle came as medium. If you do not like your steak to look like burnt roadkill kindly tell them to hold off on the flambe

I too was dissappointed in Flying Fish...its one of my least favorite restaurants in Disney. Most of the time our service is awful - my father loves the crab cakes which is why he goes. Last time they even screwed up my Caesar...it isn't that hard to make.

We were never impressed by Flying Fish's cuisine until our most recent trip, when we got to taste the food by the new chef. We found him to be inventive & we thought the combinations of ingredients were well-thought-out, not just lumped together because it was trendy.

About the scallops, what do you mean by "underdone"? Scallops should be translucent in the center still - now if the exterior is also raw, that's a bad thing, obviously :) I think that many people don't understand that a well-done steak is not as flavorful as a rare steak. Many Americans veer toward overcooked foods in their personal preferences, which is fine, but you just need to let your server know that you'd like the food cooked well done, not the standard preparation.

What we particularly liked about our server at the Flying Fish was that she gave my husband the option to have his scallops even rarer than the chef was making them - and that was a good thing!

Cheers!

That would be why it is called Char Crusted New York Strip on the menu maybe:confused3. Never appealed to me, but I have loved, loved everything else I have ordered at the Flying Fish. My absolute favorite restaurant in WDW!

We've never ordered it, but the entire table next to us did and they said it was the best steak in WDW! It looked amazing.....

DH had the steak at Flying Fish a few nights ago. He loved it, and he's picky about his steaks. I had a couple of tastes, and I have to say, it was fantastic.
