Who Is Ready For Some Snow This Weekend?

Yes! And don't forget towels or any blankets or bedding you were going to wash in the next several days just do it now if you can.

Also dishwasher if you've got dishes piling up I'd at least do a load (two if you have a lot of dishes ready to wash).
Yep, we're trying to get all the laundry done. Might run the dishwasher too, if we have time, once done with the laundry (not sure I can run both dishwasher and washer at same time).

Well, the dog sitter offered to come on Saturday before the storm hits so that we can head to northern Jersey ahead of the storm. After spending 90 minutes on the phone and online, I have a room booked and our car service modified. The neighbor even offered to snowplow our driveway once the storm subsides. It's costing us a significant premium for the changes but my anxiety level has dropped significantly.

Stay safe and warm, everyone!

Have a great time! Safe travels-

eh- I do it - I'm sure others will chime in with the why nots and paragraphs of backup and official reasons but I've done it for years and years (both private well & septic and public) and never had a issue. I don't make a huge habit of it, I do like my 1 hour delay button on the dishwasher & washer but plenty of times I've done it without thinking and it's never been a issue.

I can't remember if you live in an apartment or not but if you're not in some sort of situation where you have a more limited supply of water I wouldn't worry about it.

From time to time I take showers at the same time as running the dishwasher or take showers at the same time as the laundry is washing or do washing the laundry and the dishwasher at the same time.

I live in the Mid-South and was looking forward to some snow, but they've changed to forecast to mostly ice, with some snow, so don't want that. I didn't even think about laundry, but good idea, I'll be doing that today. Stay safe!

Hello, fellow Mid-Southerner. Let's hope the ice doesn't get too bad. They are hyping it up, but I know the local news stations will do that. They keep talking about '94 to up the scare factor! 🤣

People around here panic when there's more than an inch of snow predicted. With a storm like this, they lose their ever-loving minds! I was doing my regular grocery shopping on Tuesday and people were stocking up as if they would be snowed in for a month!
You must live in the South, lol. We only had one measurable snowstorm when we lived there and it was crazy at the grocery stores- just nuts.

Thanks. I just worry about there being enough hot water to properly wash laundry and properly run dishwasher safely so I don't run out of hot water on one or the other.

I hope it's not as bad as they say! '94 ice storm was soooo bad, they can keep it

I worked in the media for 18 years. It was our job to blow things out of proportion. I hated that part of the job, honestly. I'd rather have given facts as facts just straight to the customers. But we weren't taught that.

We're technically outside of the main path of the storm, but our forecasts are ranging somewhere around 8-12 inches or so from Saturday night through Monday. We've already gotten well over a foot on the ground (a couple inches fell last night), so my dachshund is pretty well screwed by Monday. :p

Younger son is trying to figure out his timing on heading back to college. He's likely leaving early on Saturday, as the area where his school is located is predicting 3-5 inches Saturday night and 5-8 more on Sunday. It's not an area (southern OH) that necessarily get a lot of snow, so he has no idea how well they'll handle this.

Good luck to all who are expecting ice - I can handle feet of snow (and have done so my whole life), but ice is a totally different story.

We do it all the time, though we use more warm water then hot in the Laundry. We have even taken showers at the same time as washing dishes (by hand), dishwasher and laundry going. It has to be quick but doable.

We went from the storm not hitting us until last night. It changed and we are now going to be getting 6-12 inches on top of the Arctic blast and temps being below 0. Schools were closed last week for a day because of a snow storm, this past Tuesday for the cold (-13 wind chill), chance of being closed tomorrow for cold and Monday for the snow. None of this is usually a big deal here. We get this every year but this we year we have a huge salt shortage in the area so the roads are going to be good.

I live in Central NC west of Raleigh right in the middle of where they're calling for some of the heaviest amounts of freezing rain for the state... we had a storm like this in 2003 and lost power for over a week

No, '94 was so bad it left a collective scar on everyone in the area! 🤣 I was in high school though, so for me it was fun. We didn't lose power and a tree fell on a friend's house. His mom didn't really have anywhere they could both stay, so he stayed with us and it was like an extended sleepover. We rode our bikes across the pedestrian overpass on Sam Cooper and slid to the bottom. Making up the missed school was no fun though!

Yeah I wash things in cold water for my laundry. And that's what I meant unless you're concerned about water supply. If you live in a place where the tank runs down more quickly with hot water it wouldn't be as easy to do both at the same time.

We had a repair person years ago during the warranty of our microwave (it was like 11 months old brand new house at that time) when he was at our house mention starting your tap first, getting it to the hottest it goes, then start the dishwasher to help kick start the hot water into the dishwasher so that is what I've done for years now. This is supposed to help the cycle run more efficiently and take less time to heat up.

We're under a winter storm warning now. As for the amount of snow it's anyone's guess still no one has a consensus but I am in the area that would be expected to be more snow compared to other parts of my metro
