Flying down, is it crazy to stay in a tent

I have always wanted to stay at The Fort Wilderness with our camper. But, we never wanted to drive with it from buffalo.

For our next trip in the end of August I was thinking about flying down with our tent, sleeping bags, air mattress, etc and staying in a tent. There will only be two of us tenting and I will be packing the bare necessities.

We were going to stay at Coronado or AKL, but I'm pushing for FW. Maybe it's crazy, Thanks.

Goofy is as Goofy does. :goofy: I don't tent camp , but I can tell you ,it sure is hot at the Fort in Aug. , might be worth bring'n your camper down less you just have your heart set on tenting . Love that A/C !!

Another choice might be to consider a cabin at the Fort . Still get the Fort camp experience , daily room service , and AIR-CONDITIONING !!:goofy: Goofier by the minute.

My boys and I are doing it next month (shipping the tent and a few other bulky items UPS in advance). I know some of the tenters here use small AC units for their tents during the hot months.
The only thing I'm worrying about is if we get a real frog-strangler down-pour (far more likely in August than in March -- but still a potential big time bummer in either month :scared:) In 2006, I camped for a couple nights by myself in October. It was plenty hot then (unseasonably so & no AC). The only rain I had was quite light and posed no problem. This time though, I am putting up a tarp over the tent just in case.

I have too many alternative. When I tent camp (not backpacking though) I always take WAY too much stuff, so I'd rather stay someplace else that bring all my junk. The last time we drove down was 1995 -- flown ever since. BUT the only times I stay at FW is when I stay with my sister in her RV. We tent camp (rather I do) elsewhere A LOT, but at WDW we stay at resorts when DW comes with me. But, that's just me

I think unless you at least have a good fan it will be too hot in august. Personally I'm a pack rat and would not be able to do what you want to do. I always take a weeks worth of stuff for a weekend trip. I wish you luck. I'm going in September for my first Fort visit. But I'll be staying in my new super size Pop-up with a/c.

It is possible!! But I agree with the other posters, August in a tent, yikes!!!

Check out this thread for my recommended lists for flying and tent camping. If you must do this in August, I would also recommend purchasing a small window air conditioner and have it shipped down to the fort and then ship it back home. You can zip it up in one of the doors of your tent.

I don't cook when tent camping at the Fort, so have nothing to recommend there.

I'm getting ready to do this too, but I'm new to tent camping. Can someone explain to me how you put a tarp over the tent? Do you string it up on the trees or poles?

Thanks
