Flying down and staying in a cabin question.

For those of you that fly, then stay at the cabin's, do you use ME, or another service? We are flying, and want to get a few things from a local grocery store. Should we take a cab after we check in? Or would it be more cost effective to just hire a service to pick up at the MCO and make a stop on the way in?
LOL, never had this dilema when bringing the 5th wheel....:rotfl:

There are grocery delivery services. That might be a better way to go, so you don't waste your time and the stuff is right there waiting for you. I can't recall the names of them though. I want to say gardengrocer.com is one of them.

We really enjoyed getting a limo - it was $220.00. I think they charge 25.00 for a grocery stop - not saying thats the only way to go but it was an added fun thing we did. Whip

We'll be doing the same thing. While I've read great things about the grocery delivery service, I actually prefer to show for my own items.

I read one poster say they took a cab to a local store, shopped, took a cab back and the cost wasn't too unreasonable. Maybe $20.00?

But, as I say this, I wonder 'how did they get the stuff from the cab to the cabin'? Unless the cab is allowed through the gates to drive to the cabins?

I'm interested in more feedback from others.

I've thought about having it delivered. That might be the best option for us. I don't want to waste alot of my vacation time shopping for food.

BTW, I just checked out gardengrocer.com, and the prices are pretty reasonable. The delivery fee is just $12.00, and free if the order is $200.00 or more. What I did not see on their product list was beer. Anyone know of a beer and wine delivery service? LOL DH has gotta have it!;)

I've heard they need proof of age first to buy you alcohol, There is another place people have used also which name escapes me that the service was good. I'm sure someone will chime in with it.

We did DME, used Garden Grocer and all our items, including beer and wine, were in the cabin waiting for us at check in!

The towncar service that is shown on the transportation board includes a stop at Publix on the way in.

For me, we usually rent condo's and the grocery store stop is a "chore" that delays the start of my trip (as nice as it is to pick out my own stuff). I LOVED having it done for me and found their selection to be extensive enough and prices reasonable enough for it to make sense. Yes, I'd probably have bought a little less arrival on my own but with a 10pm arrival at MCO I knew we'd be tired, and hungry and nothing would be open. Dealing with shopping at that hour was NOT appealing.

We were able to make dinner the minute we walked in the doors of the cabin!

We rent a car as well as a golf cart when staying in the cabins. We also use a grocery shopping service :) Yes, I'm lazy on vacation. The car runs under $200 per week and gives us the freedom to go where we want (like outlet shopping) when we want.

We can also make it from baggage claim and into our room in about 30 minutes if there's no traffic :) I even have the toll money set aside in advance.

I use a grocery service because I don't want to spend over an hour figuring out a new store and running the risk of forgetting something.

We do pack a few grocery items from home, such as marinades, foil, plastic wrap, coffee, zip lock bags, and cheapo bbq tools that we leave behind (from the dollar store).

You might want to consider wegoshop instead of garden grocer. They will shop using your list from the store you select and will present you with the receipt. I wasn't all that thrilled with GG. It also seems like wegoshop is a more personalized service. The owner called it more of a personal shopping service rather than just a grocery delivery service. She'll get whatever you ask for where ever you ask her to buy it. Of course, there are delivery fees involved, which are all noted on the website and are based upon how much she spends.

I'd rather pay a fee and know how much the groceries really cost than deal with GG's fixed prices.

The downside with wegoshop is that you have to build your own shopping list - there is nothing available for you to use on their website.

I cheated - and created a My Favorites list on GG and then just copy it into an excel sheet and use that as your base for a shopping list for wegoshop.

This is all great info! Thanks for the input. I love the idea of having our food delivered! I wish I could do that at home, I hate grocery shopping, and it's certainly the last thing I want to do on vacation.;)

We rent a car and stop at Publix on the way in. The first time I didn't think we would use the car a lot. But we did. We usually eat of site a few times. It saves money too. I have a 5 year old that loves Olive Garden!!! We found that we enjoyed driving to some of the Parks too. You can park right up to the door and it makes for easy moving of a very tired child.

But if I didn't rent a car, I would go thru Happylimo. I used them to get to Disney Wonder and they were great. They will also put a grocery stop in. I have heard good things about gardengrocers too. I actually enjoy going to the store and picking out some of the fun things that I can't get at my Walmart at home.

We use WeGoShop for grocery delivery and have had nothing but good experiences. They're a bit cheaper than Garden Grocer because they charge regular grocery prices (our orders have come from Publix, and she does give you the reciept for your order) plus a fixed delivery fee, and they do deliver beer & wine as long as you can show ID upon delivery. We'll be using her again on this trip. It is so nice not having to think about packing diapers or baby food or any of that.

We are arriving on the 15th ... I considered doing ME and having Garden Grocer deliver. However, when I checked online I found there prices very expensive ... however, I am from Canada and I know that Florida prices are higher. After doing a sample shopping list on the website we felt it would be cheaper to take a van from MCO (which offers a 30 minute grocery stop) and doing the shopping on our own. This way we can pick our own food ... the products available in the states are very different than Canada. I also figure this way we don't have to worry about any type of wait for the ME bus, and will get to the Fort directly (no other resort stops). We have done this before when we stayed at OKW and it worked well .... this time we are using FL Tours which charges $135 round trip for the luxury van. Last time we used ************ ... similar price and services.

For those that take a towncar or limo service to WDW from MCO - and stop on the way - I assume that this is only possible if you are arriving late in the day - obviously past check in times? I realize that they will hold luggage for early check-in's BUT a complete grocery run that has perishables?

Am I missing a storage option?

I was thinking the same thing. Where would you put your groceries? :confused3

We flew down & stayed in a cabin. I ordered all my groceries ahead of time from gargengrocer & had them delivered our first night there. It worked out great & thought the $12 delivery fee was very reasonable.
