The max weight is 50 pounds for no additional charge. How old are your girls? Are they old enough to each handle their own bag?

I haven't looked on Delta's site, but I know that not all airlines have a weight limit on their carryons.

That said, the weight limit IS however heavy the suitcase can be so that you can lift 3 carryons in a row over your head without hitting anyone, and then at the end of the flight gently and carefully take those 3 bags in a row DOWN without hitting anyone. DH still has a scar from a flight a few months ago, when a woman had packed her carryon too heavy, and she dropped it while taking it down. It landed on his leg and cut him rather deeply.

So that's always the true weight limit...light enough for you to not injure yourself or others (especially others) while putting bags and up and down.

Should you check a bag? Why not? Makes it a little bit easier to pack. Of course, if that bag is delayed, be sure you have bathings suits and a change of underoos (ha) for everyone, in the carryons.

But it did amuse me that you said you have small bags that fit the limit...the ONLY bags we have fit carryon size, and we consider them to be quite roomy! We rarely bring them onto the plane, they are generally our checked bags (b/c we unzip the extra zipper and stuff them so they don't meet carryon size by an inch or so), but still, they are very roomy even when we pack them to carry on board. :)

OHHH yes my girls are way old enough and they will be carrying their own bags I was just wondering and also where can i find out ahead of time how much my luggage weighs?

If you have a bathroom scale, step on it without the bag and then again with the bag. The difference is how much your suitcase weighs. ;)

You can really take two carry ons on. If they each have a bag that fits within the demensions also take backpacks that are not stuffed full. Your second carryon needs to fit under the seat in front of you. That's also handy for access if you need to grab books or ipods, ect...

Tip: Don't pack the checked bag right to 50Lbs. The airport scale and your home scale may not agree and it is a pain to take things from one bag to the other at check in to get it under the limit.

Also if you are using DME to get to your resort hotel. I'd find that the check bag fee is worth, having your bag go from airport check in to your room and not needing to lug around extra stuff.

I may just use my large suitcase and pack most of the clothes in them thanks for all the advice and We are using the DME so if I am correct they will get our luggage and bring it to the resort we dont have to get it right?

Yes, on Delta certainly. You just need to use the yellow luggage tags that ME sent. They usually get to your room after you, so carry on stuff you need to do right away. Be it bathing suit for the pool or hat to wear to the parks.

Checked baggage weight limit of 50 pounds per bag, size limit 62 inches adding together height, length, and width, including wheels. That's a pretty big and heavy bag. Overweight and oversized bags have considerable surcharges, AND I've had clients who were refused the RAC baggage service for their return trips since they had to pay those oversize/overweight fees to Delta directly at the airport and RAC couldn't accept them. Apparently the baggage was flagged and charged on the trip down and Delta locked it in their system for the return trip.

Carry on bag is one per person PLUS a personal item (laptop, purse, camera bag, etc.) on most airlines is up to 40 pounds and 45 inches using the measurement guidlelines above. Different types of aircraft have different underseat clearences and overhead space, that's why the airline's own guidelines are sometimes vague. At every Delta terminal I've been in there's a carry on bag test sizer near the start of the check in lines to see if your bag would fit. Most reasonalble size bags will be OK and fit in the sizer, just watch that the size and weight is something the kids can handle to lift into the overhead.

Just going to add that although you may opt to carry-on your luggage, it may end up being gate checked if there isn't enough overhead space available. Depending on where your seats are, if you are one of the last zones to board the airplane, odds are the overheads will be full. We just returned from WDW and experienced this both on our flights to and from Orlando (all flights on Delta by the way).

Did Delta gate check your luggage to pick up on the ramp or did they put it through to baggage claim? I've heard of it being done both ways and was wondering about recent experiences.

Our carry-ons were OK, but we saw a few others on our flights who had to gate check their luggage (to pick up at the ramp on arrival)
