Imagine a family trip to visit family in Florida. DH, DD 4, DD2 and me. I had planed for months! The day of the trip my BIL drops us off a the airport and left. Once we got the the ticket counter I found out my Driver's License had expired 3 days earlier. :scared1: They would not let me on the plane! Luckily my husband had a friend close by. :) He picked me up at the airport took me to the DMV (in and out in 6.5 minutes:woohoo: ...awesome people there!) and back to meet my family. Whew!!!! Needless to say I had an adrenaline rush for the rest of the day. :hyper:

Wow, pretty amazing story. Especially in and out of the DMV in 6.5 minutes. Here in Vegas, it's more like waiting 6.5 hours....haha well it's not that long but no way will you be out in only 6 minutess.

Sounds like something that would happen to me!
Thanks for posting a really good reminder! Glad everything worked out well for you.

Here too. My husband once took a number for line, left for 3 hours to coach football, came back and still had to wait 45 minutes before his number was up!! Maybe under the circumstances they let her move ahead in line. Although now that I think about it I don't think the drivers license line is very long, its usually the registration.

California's DMV lines are horrendous but Illinois' is not so bad...I've never been in and out in there in 6 minutes, but then again I had to do paperwork and etc. so I guess getting a licence updated is feasable.

So glad you were able to get that worked out in time...whoa, I don't know what I would do if that happened to me, lol.

General DMV visits here can be really fast, b/c we can check-in online! It's so cool.

But right now WA is trying to get the elderly drivers "recertified" to make sure they are safe, but they can't just get the elderly b/c that's age discrimination. So when DH went for his routine license renewal, he was told he had to take the written AND DRIVING test over!!!!! He only had a week before his license expired, and we ended up driving over an hour to a DMV with an available slot in the next 3 weeks for the driving test, he took it on his birthday poor guy. If we had had the problem you did, we would have been leaving him behind!

Anyway, I know his license is good, I know mine is, but that is a GOOD suggestion, to check things beforehand!

And from a post on the Transportation thread, if you live in Illinois (I think), do NOT get a seat belt ticket a few days before your flight... In that state (hope I'm getting the state right) unless you pay for that and certain other tickets right then and there, they take your license away, and you just use the form they give you as your license until it's all taken care of...but of course that doesn't work for the airlines.

On the other hand, from that thread, I learned that a combination of gov't ID, even without a picture, can get you onto a flight, but you're going to get pulled aside for searching at security.:scared:

Good reminder. I know I need to get mine renewed soon anyway but I'll put that on my To Do list for this week.

BTW - It sounds like the OP got very lucky getting a ride to the DMV and back plus getting in and out so quickly. Looks like you were meant to go to DLR! ;)

Whew! Illinois has a GREAT secretary of state now, he is doing a super job of making the lines at the DMV move fast and be efficient. But still that is record time!
