LOCALS SEARCH FOR STARDOM
When one of hip-hop's grande dames gets back on TV Sunday night at 9
with a dozen aspiring performers, two Central Floridians will be
center stage.
The duo are rising pop star Cori Yarckin, 22, and theme-park
performer Matthew Buckner, 25, both of whom made it through the first
round of UPN's series The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliot.
Yarckin, who was mentioned in this column last year after she won an
AOL talent competition, said that regardless of how far she makes it
in the show -- contracts prohibit her from saying too much -- "just
getting on national television is exciting."
More exciting would be the $100,000 prize for the winner.
Also competing is Buckner, who makes his living as a Ghostbuster at
Universal Studios. The opportunity was a special coup for him, since
Buckner missed the chance to be on American Idol after making it
through the early rounds of auditions.
