lol I guess there's no escaping it!! We'll just do the best we can! If you see a tall dark haired man, a 13 yr old boy, a 3 yr old girl and a crazy, clorox wipin, germ X drinkin woman! It' US!! :rotfl: We leave on Sunday...also staying at Jambo! And we are from SC...right down the road :)
I hope and pray NONE of us get sick!!! I'mk just not even gonna watch the news anymore! They put too much fear in us all

The flu is everywhere. We see each time we go that people still go to the parks sick and will drag their sick kids to the parks. The nest thing you can do is wash your hands often, don't touch handrails and then your face and maybe even ask your doctor for an rx of tamiful or something just in case.

Will Drs give that without RX? If so, I'm calling! Just to have it on hand anyway. I have no idea where the hospital is there. We have been to Centra Care! Sadly... but they do have good Drs and staff there. That's more than I can say for ours here at home. Our Drs we go to are great, but outside of them....:confused3

I lick all the door handles to build up immunity to germs: and eat Dirt..ok not really but too much sanitizers Are not good.cant build up any immunity to any sickness.

eeewwwww!! The thought of licking door handles!!! lol You know my mom told me and I TOO paranoid of germs. Last time we went was Dec 2011. Flu wasn't out too bad, but other things were out I'm sure. I was careful of keeping hands clean, but I didn't drown us all in germ x every second of the day. We didn't get sick.
Now, I DO clean our room before I let anybody go in. Blankets come off, our pillows come with us....I use clorox clean up in the bathroom, wipe down any and everything that anybody has touched the we will touch, then spray it all down with Lysol and leave.......my parents went with us on vaca once... and I got on their nerves! :rotfl2: I've seen too many crazy things on TV to NOT clean it again. Disney SHOULD have all cleaning crew to spray lysol, or something in every room after they are done, because the majority of people THINK the rooms are squeaky clean. They are clean, but not my kinda sterlized clean! :thumbsup2 A they could at least wipe down the handles on rides and things each night....that might help at least a few people from getting sick. It's not like they don't have the people, or the money to pay people to do that.....

I live in Orlando and work at Disney. I have not heard anything about things being bad here and haven't heard of a single case

We were there in Dec and my husband and kids all got it. We were traveling with my parents and they got it as well. They actually were starting to feel better when it started coming back. They went to the Dr when we got back. They got some meds and their dr said that there are 4 strains going around. On Christmas Day I woke up with it. My husband for the last few days has been feeling like he is getting it again. People at his work have been sick with it as well. It is an epidemic. It is not just the news media wanting to hype it up. While at Disney we heard others talking about family members being sick as well. The best any of us can do is to wash our hands often and be careful what we touch.

Just some advice from a mom who's been there with 4 people with norovirus & only one bathroom...
ALWAYS use the disposable liner for your ice bucket.
'Nuff said. :guilty:

You would have to check with your Dr.Here we don't give Tamiflu out unless you come in and have flu symptoms.

Yep, have to have a positive flu test to get it here, too.

Okay, so I read this whole thread. I am leaving on Monday for my first solo trip and I want to enjoy it!!! So, if you see a crazy lady all by herself Lysoling her room, using hand wipes and sanitzers in the park even though there's no one with her, Yup, that would be me!

Please correct me if I am wrong..It is my understanding that handwashing does little to prevent against the flu since it is airborne. The only way to prevent being in contat with flu germs is to stay home or wear a mask. Handwashing and sanitizers work well against Norovirus since it is spread through contact.

Reminder to self! Sanitize ice buckets!

Actually, never use ice buckets at all is the best advice.

Yeah, that's the way I'm leaning. I'm not a germophobe normally, but we just got over a stomach bug in our house and I don't want a repeat performance when we're at WDW next week.

I believe you are incorrect. It is more likely that you will contract it by inhaling infected droplets in the air, but you can get it by touching a surface with the virus on it and then touching your nose, eyes or mouth.

You are wrong! Flu is a virus that can stay on surfaces for more than 24 hours. Someone sneezes into there hand and then touches a bunch of stuff (like door handles) and then others come in contact with what they have touched. Then they touch their faces and that is how they get sick. One sick person in a workplace can contaminate the whole place (and then those people take it onto public transportation and to their homes).

Wash your hands and stay home when you are sick!

My seven year old got a stomach bug when we were there last week. y husband quarantined him in the room, and we let mousekeeping know. They sanitzed everything, steam cleaned the carpets, treated the mattresses (though my ds made it to the toilet!), and super cleaned the bathroom. We called ahead of time to warn mousekeeping to wear a mask, but they were very nonchalant about it and said it happens all the time.

Nobody else in my family got it, despite us all sleeping in a very close space for the week.

We were there 1/4-1/9 - including the dreaded 3+ hour flight. No hand santizer, no lysol, no flu shots, slept on beds with comforter, no airborne, or copious amounts of grape juice. Refained from licking any door handles or hand rails.

Came home just as healthy as we arrived. I hope you enjoy your trip.

:thumbsup2Thanks Debbie1996, I liked reading your post!
The other ones depress me.
We are schedule to leave the last week of Febuary & are hoping this flu will have run its course.
I have a child with immunity issues, Febuary is the only time that we could go.
Drs say it is okay to go, we all have had our flu shots & her nuetraphils are normal.

I think that the media can make the amount of flu cases seem gigantic. A recent headline here was how the flu had reached epidemic proportions. At the very bottom of the article it said that 800 confirmed cases had been reported. This in a city of over one million people.

Epidemic? Perhaps.......but calling an epidemic because 800 out of one million people had body aches and coughs seemed sensationalistic. I know the flu is miserable, and in immune-compromised people can be dangerous, but I think the media makes things way worse than they are.
