FLU level high around Disney??

We were there 1/4-1/9 - including the dreaded 3+ hour flight. No hand santizer, no lysol, no flu shots, slept on beds with comforter, no airborne, or copious amounts of grape juice. Refained from licking any door handles or hand rails.

Came home just as healthy as we arrived. I hope you enjoy your trip.

Exactly what my mom said we should do! Stop stressing over it and go have fun...once we get there we'll probably forget any germs are goin around ...well just a little...can't get rid of the germaphobe in me :rolleyes1 thank you, I hope we do :) Hope everybody that IS SICK stays home....

Actually, never use ice buckets at all is the best advice.

never ever never....I saw on TV once where people (drunk) would vomit in them...the coffee pots too....I put them in the cabinet away from all of us!!

We have been here a week and a half and everyone has gotten sick. Today 3 of the 6 of us went to disneyquest. I think that sometimes you just catch what is out there and sometimes you don't. Thus far I have stayed well as 2 went on antibiotics with strep, and 2 have been hit by killer colds.

You are wrong! Flu is a virus that can stay on surfaces for more than 24 hours. Someone sneezes into there hand and then touches a bunch of stuff (like door handles) and then others come in contact with what they have touched. Then they touch their faces and that is how they get sick. One sick person in a workplace can contaminate the whole place (and then those people take it onto public transportation and to their homes).

Wash your hands and stay home when you are sick!

Last week two if my staff tried to come into work while suck and I sent them home. Right after they left I Lysol the entire office.... Every door handle, keyboard, faucet, handle, table, desk, light switch in the entire office. Then every day at 5 I do the same thing because we week with the public and you never know... No one else has gotten it so far...

I was there with my family on March 2nd through the 6th. We stayed at the Campground in the preferred area section #100.

I was really careful and wore leather gloves almost everywhere. At EVERY park and DQ there were hacking and coughing, snot dripping kids and adults (VERY VERY SELFISH). I did my best to tell my wife and 3 kids not to touch their hands to their faces and wash at every possible place.

On March 7th my littlest (5) started throwing up.

By March 8th I started having dizzy spells, chills and knew something was up.

By the 9th my joints, muscles and head were killing me and I started running a fever.

I was extremely sick and stuck in bed for 5 days. I am finally able to move about and super heavy chest congestion. After a lot of liquids, organics, vitamins I am starting to get back to normal. My children are all still very sick and running high fevers.

We RARELY get sick.

This undoubtedly has come from our disney trip. Expect illness if you go right now.

Sorry you got sick, but your warning is nonsense. Been here for a week and haven't seen 1 sick person. A few coughs, but could be allergies like we are experiencing.

To say that everyone who is here now will be sick is just silly.

Hope you feel better soon, Tiger

It probably did. We just got back from being there during the same period. My 12-yo daughter has been terribly sick for the last week with fevers up as high as 104. It was typed and diagnosed as "Type A" flu. And she has had the Flumist vaccine the last 5-years. Whatever variant it is flat superseded the vaccine in a big time way. Only now is she starting to feel better. It is the first time I've ever experienced the flu and thought if you were immune deficient this thing could kill you. Its scary. I'm quite sure this variant, probably Bird Flu, came in from another country. I don't think Florida DPH or the Feds have caught up with it. We'll see what the numbers are a month from now when looking back at the graph for the first week of March. My bet is there will be an uptick.

Wash your hands well and all the time. You don't want this stuff. And yes, incubation period to onset, put us right in the middle of the Disney trip. In other words it didn't come from the "flying" part.

It's the time of year for many bugs. Why do people sound so surprised. You have just as much chance as catching stuff at Disney as you do at any other public place (mall, school, grocery store). And I'm sorry but calling people selfish because they go to the parks when coughing or sneezing is a bit extreme. You don't know what the problem is. On my last trip in June I was blowing my nose like crazy but that's because I had a nasty sinus infection (dr had assured I was in no way contagious any more). So you see me blowing my nose and being stuffed up because of my inflamed sinuses and think I'm selfish? Yes I agree people should stay home if they are really sick but I don't keep my kids home from school every time they get a little cold and I'm not going to tell them they can't go to the parks.

Anytime you go somewhere where you are going to be in large crowds of people from everywhere, you have a greater chance of being sick. It's a fact of life. If you can't risk catching some bug, going to Disney in the winter might not be such a good idea.

Let's put it this way... If we ever have a true pandemic event, Disney will be the first to close. It is a magnet for genetically mutating viruses simply because people come from everywhere harboring different variants. It's a potential nightmare...

I was there last week, heard some minor coughing but didn't see any snot dripping :crazy2:. The only precaution I took was sanitzer before meals and hand washing in the restroom. Didn't get sick.

It's a great idea if you sit down a CS restaurants to wipe down the table with sanitizer wipes too.

We have just 11 days before we go. As I watch the news about the FLU I am getting worried. We have 2 kids, one is just 3 yrs old. We have been there before once when my husband and son both caught the FLU. My son was 5 then. It was awful. I do not want to end up with any of us sick this time! Anyone know how bad it really is there right now?? We are very careful of hand washing, go through bottles of GERM-X but we can't help who's air we're breathing :( I know we could get it anywhere here in town/work, but being so far away with a sick child is not fun. We've had our FLU shots, but some aren't working against Strain A (I think) .... We can't get our money back on the room. If we could we would just cancel. I guess all we can do is be careful and PRAY!! and stay off the buses! lol I wonder how often Disney sanitizes rides/buses and things??? Prob never. I re-clean with clorox and spray a can of lysol in every room we stay in, no matter where we go. Then LEAVE for the rest of the day for it to do it's thing! If we wouldn't look like weirdos I would get us all masks and gloves to wear in the parks!

we went to WDW 1st week in October. I was sick for one month after we got back it was TERRIBLE. I started getting sick our last night @ hween party. :( good luck!!!!!

We got back from Disney on March 5th. By the next evening DH was feeling the onset of a cold. I caught it from him a few days later and am STILL sick now. Both of my parents got sick immediately after returning home. The only park they went to was MK. We used hand sanitizer religiously and washed hands at every opportunity. I just consider the possibility of getting sick to be part of taking a trip now.

The only time I've had the Flu was when I went to WDW in Feb. 2002. After that...and I can't stress enough...get a flu shot 2 weeks before you go in the winter and early spring. Forget the Purell and wash your hands after every ride and remember not to touch your face. I've followed my own advice, gone to WDW multiple times since, and have not been sick since..not even a cold.

I have always been a germophobe and I wipe down the table and booster chairs before we sit down to eat. After reading this thread I am going to make my kids carry hand sanitizer and use it after EACH ride lol. I also bring a high chair cover for my littlest one since she puts her hands in her mouth constantly.

Hopefully this flu/stomach bug stuff will be done by the time we go in April! :)

Back in December, my 2 older kids and myself got the flu. We don't do the flu shots, so I know it's a risk every year. This is the 1st time any of us have ever gotten the flu. The only thing you can do is wash/sanitize hands often and since you chose the flu shot, pray that it works because often times it doesn't and rely on the great ol' immune system. The flu here this year was pretty bad. I'm a nurse and people were constantly coming in with the flu or flu like symtoms....wasting time, money and space when they should've stayed home in bed. :sad2:

I completely agree. My DD10 had the flu for 7 days and she did not leave the house. Everyone told me to take her to the hospital but I know they can't do anything for her and she just needs to stay in bed. What's the point of taking her out, exposing everyone, and wasting money.
