We are currently living in Minnesota but are applying for teaching jobs in Florida. The quick background is that there are NO jobs here. I lost my teaching job last year due to budget cuts and taught at a private school this year making less money then I would if I were a substitute teacher. DH still has a job but is open to relocating.
We know that Florida's education has concerns...but honestly, teaching in Minnesota brings its own set of issues. We are used to diversity and poverty as we have both been in schools with these problems.
I am looking for information about teaching in Florida because when I look, I see a HUGE amount of charter school positions and we don't really have many charter schools here. I would love for any Florida teachers to share with me about their school (public, charter, private, etc), what they have in terms of contracts (is it based on seniority, merit, renewed each year, etc), what you feel about teacher job stability and anything else you would want to share.
This would be a HUGE move for us and I could really use any input with teachers who want to share.
Thanks!
Jen
