The State Sales Tax is 6.0%.
Counties have the option, through general elections, to add a 0.5%, 1.0% or 1.5% surcharge to the sales tax. Orange County (which is most of WDW and Lake Buena Vista) has a 0.5% surcharge while Osceola County (All-Stars Music and Movies and Kissimmee) has a 1.0% surcharge.
The sales tax applies to almost all goods (other than medicines and groceries not for immediate consumption) and most services.
In addition, there are local options for short-term rentals with less than a lease term of six months. This is generally 5.0% and is in addition to the Sales Tax and Surcharge.
However, the Sales Tax, Surcharge, and Lodging taxes are generally added together as one figure.
If you think that is complicated, when I sell something on eBay to another Florida resident I am required to charge the Sales Tax and the Surcharge for the county THEY live in; you should see what this does to reporting. Luckily I am a CPA and can keep good records.
