Florida residents unite!

So tell us how much you spent at Disney in a year?

Wow. Well since you threw that ignorant question out there, my family is getting close to spending $10,000 this year on Disney trips between season passes, staying onsite, eating onsite and buying multiple souvenirs. Oh and we have one more trip booked for Sept and we might be coming back again in November. So hopefully this will shut all of you who are claiming FL residents don't spend a lot of money at Disney, up.

Waaaaaa! Disney is telling me they will only give me a discount on days that are convenient for them! Waaaaaa! I want a discount when I want it! Waaaaaa!

You can not be serious. You're accusing people of throwing temper tantrums like a 2 year old and then you post that? Pot meet kettle .

Having gotten all of that out of my system, bc Disney is a business, I expect the prices to go up. That's just the way it is. It sucks... but it can't be stopped. To be honest, I believe that not having to pay thousands of dollars for a flight is a huge discount for a FL resident, hahaha... but that's just my opinion. The OP had every right to come on here and vent about the price increase. It is childish and rude to attack someone because they're saying something you don't agree with. Grow up.

I also do not spend much money when we go. We usually go for a day and eat before and after.

Now, when I was a FL resident, when we went, it was either for a full day, (and we ate in the parks either CS or TS), or we frequently (two or three times a year) stayed in our favorite summer resort (YC/BC) or winter resort (WL) to enjoy at least 2 nights, but more often 3 or 4. Even tho' we could get home in 65 minutes from the TTC, we looked forward to our time at WDW as a great local getaway.

What there is a discount for AAA? I've gone many times and didn't know that. Whats my recourse in the matter.

Perhaps you should write a letter to Olive Garden Guest Relations...?

But while they may offer a AAA discount, like WDW, unlike WDW, I don't think they offer in-state resident discounts.

Hey fellow Floridians- lets just make a pact not to respond to any non-Floridian that posts on this thread. They are obviously so jealous that we live in the most awesome state that is literally making them crazy.

That being said- We're seriously getting the shaft. We prop Disney up for YEARS when the average tourist was too scared to get on a plane after 9/11, and they thank us with THIS! I am LIVID that I have to pay an adult price for my 3 year old's AP, that is highway robbery. If you look at the increase in FL resident ticket prices, we are taking the brunt of it! I don't think that people who live outside of Florida understand, that for us, Disney is not a vacation destination, it is a lifestyle. Some people enjoy the beach or the mountains or the theater, but for FL Disney fans, Disney is what we do for weekend entertainment.

I really feel like we are getting kicked to the curb like day old garbage. Disney is telling us they don't value our patronage.

I have a feeling this has a lot to do with Xpass, Disney isn't going to encourage day guests, or even weekend trips. They want FL residents (if they come) to get APs, and book long trips that look more like the average week-long out-of-state guest.

This ticket price increase is bad, but I think things are going to look a whole lot worse for the weekend warrior when we see Xpass in full swing.

No it is more of comment of the attitude of entitlement of a few posters from Florida.

I'm going to take the highroad on this one, and I suggest you do the same.:thumbsup2

Come on folks, let's just put our differences aside!

That is the most common yet irrelevant argument I hear on these boards. Disney, in many ways, is a monopoly. Not only is there no other place quite like it (theme parks or any other vacation) When it raises its prices, Universal does, too. On the other hand, SeaWorld is a boring one-day trip but something I'll definitely consider. Not to mention, I have heard in the next several years, Legoland will be moving to that $89 a day pricing structure due to its popularity. Disney "controls" its best competitor, Universal, because when WDW raises prices UOR does, too. It's the equivalent of a monopoly.

Not to mention, I have too kids who really want to go and no vacation can compare to WDW, apparently.

Also, in many respects, it IS an issue of "entitlement" (as some DISers call it). For forty years it has been this way and Disney feels the need to change it, now. FL Residents may not be the No. 1 source of revenue now, but WDW MAY not have been here, today, if it wasn't for FL Residents who visited in in the '70s. Remember that Orlando International Airport didn't open until '74 and there were only two major roads in by Orlando (Turnpike and I-4). WDW was very inaccessible.

It is more of an issue of "screwing" loyal customers.

This just more bitterness. WDW has been open for 40 years, they owe Florida residence nothing but they still give you a discount and you still complain.

I am, once more, going to take the highroad and I strongly suggest you do the same. It appears many others have, too. :thumbsup2

Declansdad, we, obviously, have opinions which differ, and that, probably, won't change. So let's drop it!

Where is an Olive Garden fans forum? I need to vent.

O I love the Olive Garden :lovestruc but always forget to use my AAA discount. :lmao:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I just can't wrap my head around people being angry that they aren't getting enough of a discount.... :confused3

It's like being mad that I once had a coupon for 35% off my meal at Olive Garden but now I only have a 20% off coupon. Should I write a letter because I'm being robbed of the additional 15%?

And cyb, you posted on a discussion board where I am also a member. So I'm free to comment as I see fit.

Jeez...now I want spaghetti for dinner. :rotfl:

Budmonster, this is not necessarily directed towards you as I am referring the "genre" of posts that you quoted.

I do not see how mocking one whom you disagree with helps make your point. It only makes it unpleasant for those you mock. Again, we could just drop it?

By the way, there are guidelines for this site.

Please continue to rant away within the bounds of the disboard guidelines :good vibes

As this has nothing to do with trip planning moving to Community :thumbsup2

Hersheypark is approx. 60 mins away, Dutch Wonderland is about 90 mins both in PA, both at one time owned by Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company, and both around for many many years.

Far as my knowledge no PA resident discount ever offered.
We pay the same as everyone else.
Us locals have supported them throughout the years,
We pay for parking
We are not allowed to take in drinks or snacks.
We do get one bonus- we're allowed wagons :rotfl:

Instead of looking at the negative, look at the positive. They could have stopped all discounts.

andyman8...it is what it is. Disney changed the FL resident tickets you can either choose to accept this fact or come on a message board and complain about it. Either one isn't going to have an impact on Disney.

And I only came back on here to mock the other posters (about the spaghetti) because this post was getting way to serious. Life is way to short to get so upset about a discount to a theme park.

I'm bringing the meat balls and coke. :lmao:

Please don't forget my buddy jack to go with the coke. Thanks ;)

Sounds likea plan

I am really hoping Disney doesn't do away with the 3 day $99 pass like they offered this year. That's when we plan our vacation is around that pass. I can see them raising the cost of it a bit and it would still be a good value but if they decided to not offer it anymore then we are done going to Disney.

I apologize if I repeat anything that has been said but I only made it through half of the posts until I saw a major trend. It seems that a lot of people seem to forget that there are FL resident that live 6-7 hrs. away from WDW and do spend a good bit of money at the resorts, eating at the WDW restaurants and even purchasing DVC. In my part of FL there aren't any theme parks anywhere within a 3 hrs. driving radius so WDW is a major trip for us and we like to go all out.

My DH & I have been purchasing the FL Resident Seasonal Passes since 1999 so I can't speak as to how many years prior to that WDW offered FL resident discounted prices. When we had kids we celebrated when they each got their first WDW ticket and now our oldest is 10 and it was a small milestone when we bought him his first adult ticket. We have taken numerous family members and friends, both FL resident and out of staters, to WDW and all of them have spent $$ on their vacations. Because we live 6-7 hrs. away we purchased DVC but prior to that we stayed on WDW property and wouldn't have wanted it any other way. We have done the DDP and even when we have opted not to do the DDP we still have at least one TS each night. We still buy souvenirs even though we are Floridians and I'm pretty sure that we spend just as much and probably more than a family visiting once every five years.

While I know that WDW doesn't HAVE to offer FL residents lower priced tickets they have done so for the past 13 years (at least 13 years). Each year the price for the FL resident tickets has gone up but it was comparable to how much the non-FL resident tickets when up. Now with the new price increase once you add in the tax the FL Resident Seasonal AP is jumping up $56 dollars! The adult tickets are going up $33. And not having a price difference in the child and adult tickets seems odd and silly to me. It isn't like a child can use the same benefits that an adult AP holder can use. A child won't be going to WDW by themselves, they won't be using the AP parking perk, they won't be using the AP shopping/dining discount, etc.

It seems like WDW really jumped up the cost of the APs across the board, both FL resident and non-FL residents. While the AP holders, FL residents (both local and much farther away) might not spend as much per day as a once every other year WDW guest, they probably spend more over the course of a year or two than that once every other year guest. I've been slightly disappointed with various WDW things in the past couple of years but this really got my feathers ruffled.

:thumbsup2, We don't get a resident discount either:mad::laughing:

I mean if you're out of state you can still buy 10 day nonexpiration tickets with no block out dates right?

Can't Fl residents buy any of the tickets that us non-Fl residents can? I did not know that Disney prevented Fl residents from buying these tickets?:confused3

I encourage all Florida residents to write to Disney and tell them how much this change sucks. I sent my letter out, and if you would like to use it and modify it for yourself, I'd be happy to PM it to you.

We need to let Disney how we feel about these changes!

I don't know if you guys have noticed at the end of spaceship earth, where the globe shows where guests are visiting from- but Florida is always lit up like a Christmas tree! We are a huge demographic for the parks, and our dollars will count if we go elsewhere.
