We have been invited to spend Thanksgiving down in Homestead with my mother in laws brothers family. ( my MIL too)
Anyway, we are thinking about going to the keys for a day. My MIL has been there before but we haven't so...... any suggestions on what are "must do's or must see's" or what not to waste time on. I have always wanted to see the keys so I am very excited.

Thanks in advance.

Been ther a couple of times - do you know that the Keys are 100 miles long? From Homestead to Key Largo will take a good hour.

Go to a bookstore and get "The Insider's Guide to the Florida Keys". I got it before our trip there last summer. Great book! You'll definitely want to stop in John Pennecamp State Park. You can snorkle in a small swimming bay - complete with resident fish and cannons laid on the bottom like they were remanents of a ship.

PM me if you want or need more info.

And from Key Largo to Key West is about another 2 hours!

We love Key West - been there twice. We did the usual touristy stuff - Conch Train Tour, Hemingway House, took a ghost tour at night, visited the Southernmost Point (nothing but a big buoy, but fun).

We just liked walking around, looking at the architecture, people-watching, eating.

We want to go see the Mel Fisher treasure exhibit next time (oh yes, there WILL be a next time).

We took a trip to the Keys last year (I think, maybe the year before) and one place that I LOVED was http://www.cranepoint.org/ .
Also, the aquarium in Key west was a lot of fun! Here is web link for that http://www.keywestaquarium.com/
Oh and also we did this http://www.historictours.com/keywest/
It was a blast!!
It is not a day trip though. (I used to think it was a day trip from Orlando!) We drove down fron West Palm Beach and spent over a week in the keys.
The drive seems long but I really enjoyed it and it went by so fast! We had an awesome time and would LOVE to go back!

If you go on the cruise threads. Shirley from The Perfect gift will let you know all about Key West, as she grew up there and is more than willing to send brochures for Key West, all you have to do is send her a SASE.

Eat conch. They're the best. Esp in one of those fish bait shack.

Yummmm.
