Florida Gator football lovers: A perspective on your program

"The top 10 best administered schools rankings were based on student assessment of how smoothly the school runs and the ease with which students can get into required and popular courses."
http://today.ucf.edu/blog/2009/10/09/ucfmba_princetonreview/
Considering that it's based on student assessment and the exact definition of "best administered", I wouldn't say that it means that it's a better program than UF's.

Schmitty: Sorry, I seriously have to laugh at UCF. They're going to pass UF in ratings? Okay. That'll be the day. Yes, UCF will get better but it's not anything special now. I have so many friends who graduated from there who say they feel that UCF isn't as credible as FSU or UF and employers take note of it, in their opinion- and they're alums! Why go to UCF if you could go to UF, unless of course you're going simply to be close to Disney (which is a good reason ).

I am shocked by your negative opinion of "hillbilly" Gainesville. Clearly you've never been to Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia. Wow. It's a shame that you feel such a strong dislike towards us "hicks" in Northern Florida. Just curious- where are you from and where did you graduate from?

And, that picture of Riley Cooper is HOT! :)

Hey I am from NOrthern Fl and I agree Gainesville is hicksville andeven most of the UF grads I know will agree to that.

And your post is one of the main reasons I HATE UF, that attitude of holier than thou and no one is better than them.

I think that was his baseball pic anyway, he is very cute in person...they all look so great dressed up on the Gator walk...I'll try and get some better pictures Saturday....I am usually holding one of the girls up so they can see....

you know, re the drunken fans that uua talks about, come on....that is ANY team, I mean there are idiot fans in any and every sport it seems, I've seen some parents at gymnastics a bit over the top....I think people who love certain teams get very passionate about them, do I love the Gators? You bet, enough to purchase season tickets, give a ridiculous donation every year......are they doing well right now? yes, could they lose tomorrow? sure, is the world going to stop? no....I was fan back in the day when we had no wins, when I went to UF it was the Spurrier era....FSU was also a huge winner during that time....we'll go through the cycles over the years I am sure, but I truly don't think it's a fair assessment to say fl, lsu and bama fans are the only drunk ones and to hate Tebow just because he gets so much coverage....that kid is so humble - he is not going out looking for the media to hound him and put him out there....it makes you sound so bitter to simply hate someone for a reason such as that. And I stand by my previous stmt re those fans and you. I mean why would they say anything at all to you? You wearing an opposing teams shirt? Or you yelling how you hate Tebow to the screen?

As much as I hate UF, how can you not like Tebow, that kids is a class act. I saw his parents on the tv during the FL/GA game, it is easy to see where he gets it from, they defined class as far as I am concerned

Sorry if my post seemed holier than thou, truly that is not my intention. I don't believe that my post elevated UF higher than any other school, I just think it's silly to say that UCF is going to be rated higher than UF very soon. It takes a school a long time to reach a commendable status and UCF is "young". Plus, there's nothing wrong with having school pride. I'm sure you're proud of your school and don't like when people bash it. :confused3

And, yes, there are certainly country-like people in Gainesville but it's unfair to say that everyone is a hillbilly/hick/whatever. Sheesh.

what's funny is you seem like someone who is so bitter towards UF . as in you didn't get in so now everyone who went there or is a fan has a holier than thou attitude...and obviously you have not been to Polk county or many other places in FL....Gville is not a hick town in anyway, maybe back in the day.....

I really have never seen a holier than thou attitude from UF fans (of course ribs and such but you make it sound any and everyone who went to school there and/or is a fan is this way).....I am sure there are some, but wow, something serious must have happened with you and someone from UF for you to be so hateful towards the school to the point you would deny your child a wonderful education at a state public school....

and to smitty, you need to check the US World and News Reports.....then compare UF and UCF.

Spikes: 'I don't want to be a distraction'Comment Email Print Share By Joe Schad

Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes made a 19-second statement to reporters in Gainesville on Wednesday night, announcing he will effectively suspend himself for the entire Vanderbilt game for his attempted eye gouge of a Georgia player.

"I really don't want to be a distraction to the team," Spikes said. "I want the guys to prepare without any negative things going on. I feel like if I would play, it would be a big thing. I'm just trying to stay out of the way and just motivate the guys. I'm pretty sure Stamper's my back and my teammates really support me on this decision."

Florida coach Urban Meyer said Spikes approached he and defensive coordinator Charlie Strong Tuesday night and they made a collective decision. "We support Brandon fully," Meyer said.

"Alot of the negative things out there are really weighing heavy on his heart right now," Meyer said. "As a group, we decided in the best interest just for the team to not play him Sat. It's a group decision. We're doing it out of respect for our team so we can focus on trying to win our ninth game. We think it's the right thing to do."

Meyer had faced some criticism for only suspending his All-American linebacker for only the first half the Vandy game. The Southeastern Conference accepted the original punishment.

Spikes stuck his hand into the facemask of Georgia's Washaun Ealey during Florida 41-17 victory against the Bulldogs last week. There was no penalty called at the time, but Meyer went back and looked at the play of tape and decided to punish Spikes.

ok, maybe you misunderstod my post, and I guess I really didn't explain it very well. I am in Jacksonville, so I know what it is to be called a Hick and no we are not all hicks, but I believe that "Gainesville" is hick, it is small and pretty much nothing but a college town, so I think the place is HIcksville, not necessarily the people. KWIM?

you probably wouldn't see it because you are a grad and a fan, however, I worked with a bunch of the most nasty, uptight, self righteous people on the earth, and unfortunately, I am still surrounded by more of them. Not all but more than not. So yes I have been very jaded, and thankfully, my kids have no interest in the school. I am sure I can find somewhere else that they will be equally successful and have continued success after graduation. If we have our way, we won't even be living in this state so it really won't matter, but if we do, they will have to find somewhere else to go.

Well I checked and as I mentioned in my post I hopefully won't be living here. We plan to move to NC and I was oh so happy to see that Duke UNC Chappel Hill and Wake Forest were all ranked above Florida, so I guess I will be OK

NC is pretty, and yes, if you hate it here so much you should move, it can't be good for your health. Is there something keeping you here now?

I'm no UF fan (Ohio State all the way) but I think it is unfair to single out UF in almost every single situation that has come up. Unfortunately college football is big money. Because of the financial intensive many (if not all) schools with large football programs in big conferences allow people who have no business in college in so they will play.

Many schools and professors look the other way when athletes cheat or do a whole lot of other stuff that would not fly if they weren't athletes. Colorado and Michigan are two glaring examples that come to mind.

It isn't an excuse to allow it to happen and I wish every school, even OSU, would crack down on the behavior of athletes. To say UF is the only school, or even the worse, is just not fair.

Now, I definitely think Spikes should be suspended much longer than 1/2 of a game. I don't care if other people in the pile were doing the same thing, he got caught. It is not acceptable anywhere in life to defend wrong actions by using the "but they were doing it" defense. That gets old right around the 3rd grade. If you are pulled over you still get a ticket even though other people are out there speeding. It has nothing to do with what school he goes to, it has to do with his actions which he is accountable for. Other's actions shouldn't come into consideration.

I think Spikes made the right decision himself and that shows that maybe he's not such a bad person and just got caught up in the heat of the moment.

Yeah, fear of moving. lol. I have always lived here, but other than that, nothing keeping me. And I really don't hate the state, I just think I am ready for a change and I would like to get my kids out of FLorida.
