Florida Gator football lovers: A perspective on your program

when you go through the 24 arrests/charges/whatever and list each by name and what the charges were and the results...

when you never admit that maybe, just maybe Spikes wasn't right in what he did. Yep, it happens. But he got caught and it was blatant and it made national press.

um === I copied those charges and outcomes from an article and pasted and that is being arrogant? geez....

who never admitted Spikes wasn't in the right? Where are you coming from?

They said on ESPN tonight that Spikes actually went to Urban Meyer and told him that he felt that his punishment should be more than it was (so it wasn't a matter of pressure being applied to him by Meyer.)

People need to do their research before making accusations.

While I agree what Spikes did was wrong, it was an in the moment thing. If you've ever played sports, your adrenaline and passion get in the way and you often do things you normally wouldn't do. For the most part these are good things, but occasionally you do some stupid things. Blount (Oregon RB) did the same thing, and I don't think he deserved to lose out on his senior season, half maybe but not all of it. With Spikes, I think 2 games would be right.

Now, I think we can all agree, the excessive celebreation penalty is the dumbest thing happening to college football. These kids just scored the game winning TD and you expect them to just hand the ball to the refs and trot to the sideline?

The fans like the celebrations, the players do, I'm pretty sure most coaches are neutral, so what is the problem?

I am also heavily in favor of the BCS System.

there's always going to be difference in opinions....but after all

football...is just a sporting event..a game? so i normally don't comment
..because of passions effecting the ability to reason. however, i
saw something last night ....on sports center, that really put all of
the debates..into perspective.

this time..it was a women soccer match. one girl was committing vicious
assaults...against her opposing players. she should be facing "attempted
murder"..but because the other girl was not hurt...all was ignored.

...there are some behaviors...that should be regulated...not by on-field
penalties....but by legal charges. if they were be done fairly, then the
same measuring "standards"...would be used...in all sporting events...to
stop...the manipulation ...and motivate the players...to preform..
within the... same boundaries.

kudos..to sport center..for catching this dangerous , criminal player
[female] ..on tape. :thumbsup2

..all her "attacks"..were faceless, & ambushing. what a nasty-mean
spirited person. the incident for she should be charged for attempted
murder....grabbing another girl's pony~tail from behind with so much
force..she crumbled to the ground. "pony-tails"..were band..for nurses
working in prisons....because the same behavior killed a rn passing
meds. [ she was dead before..she hit the floor] . i think the only
thing....saved this girl..was being an athletic conditioned.

if this was my daughter...i would came off the field..& defended her.
..on the spot! [ working mental health....we have both...males/females...
pts...so experiences...reveals..how sex..isn't a factor..how dangerous
either can be. sadly...that is a factor..some uses...to escape legal
charges.

..since someone mentioned..the oregon player?....sports..are not
prepared...to manage these situations...that is fair & produces positive
outcomes. sadly, he was not treated fairly...& the "things"..needing
addressing -[ the other player taunting versus celebrating/sportsmanship
....& the fans behaviors...were overall avoided. &,,,,right after this
game, there were another game...[ the same week]......where a
"player"...intentionally went after ...a defense-less player...&
chosen behaviors..that should've produced legal charges..yet, that player
wasn't even ejected, :scared1:

i don't understand..how a person religion beliefs..enter this debate
for ....making a final ruling???? it makes no logic...to decide ...the
"corrective measure"...based on the team. all football..teams..are
american team, & while it 's a "hobby"..to put another team down,
....each team...are made up of players...from all over the country.
[ big 10, has....players...from ohio..on all their teams..year after year,
...even across the country. ] so...really who are you really hating?
..your fellow american..youth..our future leaders? * exception,
of course..is a the team up north,

can't we all agree...to re-focus..on the benefits.....& the need to
do things right..for all the teams... playing..the game?

then my suggestion..is to redirect all the "blaming"..and replace it
with ...a problem-solving approach/es......aiming for a corrective
measure..producing positive outcomes...for the players, the teams,
& all who supporting ..or rooting against.....so the game..is worth
watching?

...bcs versus a playoff.....actual both are compatible..if you're asking
me? all is needed, is a new system....of combining them both. i would
suggest, bringing back the old ..swc....and then divide....all the
conferences..into.....10 teams/p[laying a schedule of 14 games...
...where the first 10 games are to determined....each conference
champion..then...used the 4 non-games...to match up different
regions....[ rotating every year]..to determined the final 2 best
teams from the conferences champions....where the final game
of the season...is the different bowls...[..the bowl history,
sooo :sad2:..that the cotton bowl..has lost its status- :rolleyes1]

.....& where..the bcs bowl..is played....mandated..@ a neutral site.

( everyone knows..home field.advantage....is a major bonus..for
college home games? i was@ the marshall first home game...after the
deadly...plane crash...)

..oh, any syrause fans? :thumbsup2, demonstration of support to
the conn. team!!! you made....my day!

Lil Grumpy, what are you using (device wise) to type this? It was harder to read than the posts I've seen with no punctuation but I think I got the main ideas out of it and for the most part, I agree with you. The reason I support a playoff system is that every division besides Division I has a playoff system and the NFL has a playoff system and it just seems more fair to me.

he usually posts on the cruise board and I have never been able to get through his posts...not sure what he uses.

craziness!

Florida coach Urban Meyer was fined $30,000 by the Southeastern Conference for his public comments concerning officiating, Commissioner Mike Slive announced Friday.

The fine is the first since the conference’s Athletic Directors, with the full support of the league’s Presidents and Chancellors, voted to have all violations of SEC Bylaw 10.5.4 enforced by suspensions and fines.

“Coach Meyer has violated the Southeastern Conference Code of Ethics,” Slive said. “SEC Bylaw 10.5.4 clearly states that the coaches, players and support personnel shall refrain from public criticism of officials. The league’s Athletics Directors and Presidents and Chancellors have made it clear that negative public comments on officiating are not acceptable.”

Meyer released a statement after the fine was announced.

“As I stated last week, I have great respect for Commissioner Mike Slive and the Southeastern Conference and I respect this decision. There was no intent to criticize an official after being asked about a situation that occurred last Saturday and I apologize for my remarks.”

I couldn't read your post either lil grumpy, it was atrocious. But, if Fla girl is agreeing with you, I'm sure I don't. (playing the odds)

The main points I got are that he/she doesn't usually argue about football because passions tend to affect reasoning when you argue about sports, that most teams have players from the surrounding areas (such as most of the Big 10 teams having Ohio players on their team) so he/she doesn't understand where the hatred for other teams comes from, something about a female soccer player that was attempting to murder opposing players and that he/she thinks that the legal system should be used more to punish certain on-field and off-field actions, and that the national champion should be determined by a combination of BCS and playoffs.

well, we missed yesterday's Gator Walk as we were at The Swamp (restaurant) before the game watching Bama/LSU.....but these are from yesterday.....

who says there is 'hatred' ? There is 'hatred' for every team. Of course they are more of a target - they are winning. that is reality. You want to be irrelevant... start losing.

We don't know that the Georgia team did anything wrong other than your word (anecdotal) and Tebow claiming that everyone does it. I rescind my earlier praise of Tebow. For him to defend Spikes is wrong.

Just admit that he screwed up and got caught and has to pay the penalty. Life will be much easier than if you keep defending him until you are blue in the face. get it ? blue! ha!

yeppers...a GA player ripped off Spikes helmet, and in fact a going for the obvious facemask.....

I didn't see the eye gouging when it actually happened, but my DBF did and he said that it was after the helmet was ripped off and seems like it might have been done in retaliation for that (again, I'm not sure that's true since I didn't actually see it during the game.) If so, it's still wrong (and I've never said it wasn't) but I can understand even better how he could have gotten caught up in the heat of the moment.
