As anyone gone to Florida from out of state and gotten a Fla DL and used it get hotel discounts and tickets?

depending on what state you're trying to come from, getting a Florida DL is about as much fun as a prostate exam. not to mention, I'm sure it's some type of fraud.

:)

Wouldn't you have to surrender your other DL?

Not necessarily. There is a license for that is good for in-state driving only, which allows you to keep your license from another state. One of my friends at the Post Office had one because he did not want to surrender his New York license, but needed a Florida license to deliver mail here.

I don't know if they're still available, and I believe you have to show proof of part-time Florida residence to get one.

When I got my Florida license, they kept my Missouri license.

At most locations you can't just walk in and get one. You need a reservation.

Not only do you need a reservation, you need to prove you ARE a Florida resident. They don't hand 'em out like candy, ya know! ;)

Well if its at ALL like what I went thru to get my Georgia license you will earn any discount.

I had to provide the "old DL", proof of citizenship (Birth Cert or Passport) and proof of residency (closing statement worked)

Then I made an appointment... which was only avaialbe at selected locations. It was just a nightmare... the place was packed and a mad house!

This can't be for real, but just in case...

I moved from Texas to Florida and you have to surrender your old license.

"Am I There Yet", yes the question is real, pinch yourself, you're not dreaming.
And you can get a Fl DL and keep your original license.

well dang! Then they "stole" my NJ license from me!!
The closest FL DMV to WDW is down on Central off of 192E. The best time to get there is at opening, so you let us Floridians know how you make out with that FL DL without all your needed docs or surrenduring your out of state DL.

According to the FL website the OP is partially correct. Your FL license is only good in Fl

What do I need to bring to obtain a Florida Driver License or Identification Card?

United States Citizen proof of identity.
Non-United States Citizen proof of identity.
Social Security number, if issued.
Proof of completion of a Traffic Law & Substance Abuse Education Course or license from another state, country, or jurisdiction.
New Resident

United States Citizen requirements.
Non-United States Citizen requirements.
Other pertinent information regarding vehicle registration, tags, and titles.
Part-time Resident

Drivers who hold a Class D or E license and are part-time residents may elect to retain their valid out-of-state license and receive a Florida license which states "Valid in Florida Only."

Note: Giving false information on an application for a driver license or identification card is a third degree felony which may result in arrest, and includes a one-year suspension of the driving privilege. Proof of correct address may be required, for example, cancelled mail envelope received.

Thanks Carol it's nice to see people who don't just react to posts when they don't have the facts.

If you only knew how easy and perfectly legal it is and was.

Thank goodness! My dreams are usually more exciting. :thumbsup2

Well, maybe I was unaware of that, because when I got my Florida license, I was actually a resident.

When I moved to Florida, I had to make an appointment and wait for a month to get in to get my Florida license. I don't see how it could be easy.
